update: I tried to run PGR3 and it gets stuck after loading my profile. nifty. Regarding the NXE: This particular version lacks the avatar customization ability as well as codecs as you've guessed. I like it better than the previous dash because it's less cluttered and the pop-up dash during gameplay is fluid, unlike the older one (it also looks nothing like the old one) The menu is straight forward and reminiscent of Vista but obviously meant to be navigated by a controller and not a mouse. It's got that shinny gloss everywhere (the staple of Microsoft this time around) and you have the ability to use your own background. I used a desert scenery and it looks nice, bottom being overlaid by the NXE. So far, I haven't found an option to use the Old dash. Achievments are clearly and conveniently set out in a horizontal manner with large and easy to read letters and icons. All in all, I m a happy camper so far. The game dumping bit I haven't tested, considering I have the 20GB model and I m naturally short on space - if only the damn 120GB drive wasn't so expensive. the PGR3 lockup after loading my file (press A to continue screen stuck, no guide button works etc) is the only let down so far. I ll give a shot to some old XBOX games and some 360 titles. OE: have you got any issues with PGR3? Halo 3 worked fine, and so did XBOX 1 original Ninja Gaiden
My PGR3 is working fine in the NXE, if it makes a difference, it is the PGR3 disc that came with the 360 steering wheel.
...PGR3 load times are dramatically improved, due mainly to early coding issues, which are now optimised
I guess then it's either my disc or the drive that's fading out funny bit of info: although I m not an officially permitted console holder regarding NXE in order to log in to live, my games update fine from live=) <- just found out this isn't the case, must wait till the 19th. apparently PGR3 won't work w/o this update because I still get stuck at the same point. disc is fine, drive sounds ok
Do u have an downloadable content for PGR3 that won't work unless connected to live. That may be your problem.
...It's like barcode said, as he's not officially meant to use the NXE until the 19th, it won't update properly until release.
Anybody know if you can backup original xbox games then? And when you copy the content of the disk to your HDD, the reason why you still need the disc inserted is because it still uses it. It doesn't run purely off of the 360 because it only supposedly dumps non xex key-components. Good example would be the materials and models used for the maps in Halo 3. Mind you, don't quote me for this in the future... ^_^
Are you sure? Iv'e loaded Dead Space on my HDD and other than when the system first turns on (to get the title ID to display in the "Play GAME X" area), there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO disc access. It's perfefctly silent, not even one bit of drive access ever. *EDIT*: Here is a "ClipMoon" clip: http://www.clipmoon.com/videos/9507de/dead-space-on-nxe-preview-running-from-hard-drive.html I just point up, as you can see (err, "hear" I guess) there is no drive noise. Sorry about the video quality, only had my cell to do the video.
So you need the disc for the HDD load. You can't just download it to the HDD then play it without the disc
Isn't the HDD function on the new dashboard proving that 360 game can be loaded from the HDD, opening the door to buying full 360 games off the marketplace, like the PSN downloadable version of burnout paradise, because if i was Microsoft thats where i would go next.
Wouldn't surprise me at all, you can already get Xbox 1 games downloaded from the Marketplace and size wise that can't really be different than 360. Hell, look at Portal on Xbox Live Arcade, that is (part of) an actual full 360 title and the download weighs in at almost 700 megs. So, why not?
Thing is I don't think disks will ever be caught out because people will always want the actual copy of the game. And come one messing around with a hard drive at a friends house is a lot harder than just poping the game in.
Would this make copying games for people who have flashed drives easier then? I'm not exactly sure, as I'm not too knowledged in the subject , but could you not simulate the "headers" ( I think its called ), hash and/or whatever it uses to confirm the disc is in the drive is the same as the one in the HDD?
I'm pissed that we have to have the disk in even though the game is technically on our hard drive. I hope there's some way around this
Its called piracy, you really think MS would allow full 360 games to be played from the hdd with no disc. And no I really don't see away around this, the secuirty in the 360 is highly impressive and all you can do for now is play bootleg disc,no homebrew. The firmware hack will not be a way to play a game from the hdd with no disc.
I actually think that if you burn a Dual layer dvd, padded with data, and it has the correct dmi ss etc it will allow the game to load off the hdd. Also I remember an firmware that allowed single layer dvd backups and I think (no ss xbox 1 backups). Instead of backing up to dual layer discs we could potentially backup to hdd then use a Cd or Dvd to load the ss, allowing people to save money on Dual layers. Sadly such a thing has no use but to pirates
