The goal of the project is to remake Ocarina of Time, had it used all the known elements found in its betas. I'm really excited for this one! Unfortunately the developers have given a estimate of a 2010 release. Lets hope they pull through as it should be awesome. There's an article on this on unseen64 http://www.unseen64.net/2008/11/15/ocarina-of-time-beta-restoration-project/ There's a board for the project here http://www.teambetatriforce.freeforums.org/ Anyone who thinks they could help out in anyway, definitely go give a post on that forum. I'd really like to see this actually get released PS: I know I posed this in the "What fan remake/projects are on your radar?" but this is just so exciting that it deserves its own topic.
As with all ROM hacks - I'll wait until something concrete is released before getting excited. Though it doesn't really sound that interesting to me, to be honest.
Well it at least seems like a great idea. Of course we'll have to wait and see What other things besides that listed on the website should be included. I'm not too familiar with the betas, Hmm... I take back what I said about them needing many more people. According to unreal64 "We are currently in search of 1 additional 3D modeler to help us. If you would like to be a 3D modeler, contact me via email, or in a message through Unseen64, or our team website(link below). We will never accept any more team members after we have our final 3D modeler, since we are trying to have a limited number of team members." So if anyone qualifies it should be great.
that's cool except...beta's go through several stages. that'd be weird going and wouldnt be consistant with anything... "restore the beta version" Yeah...because you know, nintendo made a beta and then said "HOLD IT!" and changed shit and sent it to retail overnight... edit: I am excited though - the video teaser of the mod is interesting
Strangely enough, some people have an opinion that it may have been better that way. That's the weird thing about people; everyone has a different opinion on everything.
Interesting how they are going to "restore" something they only have seen a few crappy screenshots of. They should just say they are doing a ROM hack to include some of the beta picture's ideas.
I can't imagine where they're getting their material. They even mention that it comes from other games.. I look forward to seeing if they remake some areas that were taken out(the town and the forest to name a couple), but I don't see what they're going to do with some things they only had single shots of. And of course, the chances of this not failing and team members leaving is 100%. I've yet to ever see any sort of project like this get completed.
Dude, gross!!!! :-( I'm surprised Nintendo let people get away with ROM hacking like this, all things considered.
Theyll probably wait until these guys are like 99% done with the hack before they issue the cease & desist order :icon_bigg
I'd rather see a "remade" fan version w/ different dungeons and shit. Of course, that's a huge project, so we'll never seen it.
As long as the content they're releasing is original (i.e. the patch doesn't contain any copyright code), there's not a lot Nintendo can do, at least in terms of the legality of the patch itself.
Nintendo just hasn't seemed to care for this sort of stuff (heck, they rarely stop outright pirates).
All the rom hackers have to do is put their server is some fucked up country. Problem solved. Works for online poker.
