Some time ago, I bought a rather strange looking disc from someone.

    Have a look at it

As you can see it has the PSRM number 007820 printed on it near the middle, and as far as I know, all Playstation games has a PSRM code + a SLUS/SLED/SCEE/SLUJ code to go with them for identification purposes.

There's also a HUGE "Director's Cut" written on it, and nothing else.
For anyone who cares, you can see the print is of quality.

The disc is a 1:1 match with the disc that would normaly come in the cover, which is Resident Evil - Director's Cut (SLUS-00551), regular version and not the Greatest Hits version. (greatest hits is SLUS-00747 and had added Dual Shock support)

The disc boots perfectly fine on a non-modded US system.

Anyone able to tell me what exactly this disc is or any suggestions to what it might be?

HK pirates have as far as I know a bad habbit of not doing this. Which is why I wonder if anyone knows what this is.

Also, the "Director's cut" printed on it is of much better print quality than the average HK silver.

You're joking aren't you? What HK silvers have you seen? I've had many Saturn HK silvers in the past all with far better print than that PS disc. I don't think it is a HK silver anyway since the bottom of the disc is black or someone has just got a standard silver Samsung disc and printed DIRECTORS CUT on to it. I had a few Samsung Discs with black bottoms just like a PS game. Also had blue, red, green, purple and yellow bottom coloured discs. I wonder if they still sell them?

Maybe it's a factory misprint. Capcom was good at that when they minted Strider 1+2 for PSX. The discs labeled Strider 2 were Strider 1, and the discs labeled Strider with Strider 2. So minting errors do happen.

And ya, they still sell colored CD-R media in a variety of colors like you mentioned. Black is probably the most popular.

Not joking. It probably doesn't show well in the picture there, but the Director's Cut print there is actually like a thick layer, kinda like the print is on most PSX and PS2 discs with disc art on. While all silvers I have seen more or less feels like someone's just printed directly on the disc, making it have a metallic shine on the print.

I know local stores here still have black Memorex discs atleast and also multi coloured Traxdata discs.

Anyway, the fact that this thing boots fine on a non-altered US system, has a PRSM code in the inner circle along with a fine barcode makes it not seem like a fake/bootleg/silver atleast.

I just keep thinking of the possibilities for it being a replacement disc/reprint or something, or possibly a preview/promo or master of sorts maybe?
I dunno, but I'd like to know :/

    [edit]
MottZilla, maybe you're onto something there.
Never heard about that they had misprints on Strider1-2.

It looks like the disc might have skipped part of the labeling process when being ptessed. This is just a guess though since I have no clue on how the labels are applied.

A Snow is probably right, Looks like it just got the red part on it: Heres the second release of Directors Cut (which is the same as the first) and the greatest hits. GH = B&W so its not that. The pattern matches the normal release.

I know I've seen pressed HK pirates, though I really don't know what this disk is. But definitely, HK pirates cannot be ruled out so easily.

This is just a silk screening error, nothing more.
