I rarely post news about upcoming new games (mainly b/c of their ample coverage, even if biased) but I think this one will drown out in an age which sports keywords like HD, PS3, Hardcore, Wiimote, BlueRay, Multicore, Online, blah, blah blah. </yawn> In short, it's a new, 2D game by the creators of Princess Crown. Not sure if the worlds are connected, but any fan of 2D games should preorder this one as soon as they can. It seems to sport the same gameplay as it's prototype (or prequel... I've not read the story yet). Related thread at gamengai, w/ plenty of screenshots. http://www.gamengai.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1569 Official site link is at the bottom.
This thursday to be precise for Japan. Although there is a US release sometime soon too. Although one of the characters is called Mercedes, two of them have standard fantasy character names, one is called Velvet (can you guess which one...) and the other is called Oswald... I'm not sure if they really put that much effort into naming the characters, not sure if I can battle big monsters with someone called Oswald or Mercedes... :banghead:
The game is focused around Greek Mythology, so don't expect to be surprised by a lot of the names. What a great time for my TV to go absolutely TITS UP! This is the only game I've looked forward to all year.
I might actually try to get this game, I hardly buy PS2 games too, it just looks too interesting! Like the PSX days or something.
You ever tried Princess Crown (the prequel to this for the most part)? One of the best looking 2D games out there. This will no doubt top it on all fronts, but still.
Wow, never knew there was a prequel of sorts. Looks like it was on japanese Sega Saturn and PSP...I just now got into imports so I'll have to check it out. Odin Sphere really does look cool though.
Never tried the PSP version, but I would recommend to stay away from it. The brilliance of this game is seeing gigantic 2D sprites. It will look like a gigantic turd on an HDTV as well I'm sure. It's one of those games you just have to have on big ass CRT monitor to full appreciate.
Yeah, I'm so sick of my HDTV for anything but 360. =( I need to find another big ass (even cheapo) 20" for my older stuff! I've been playing lots of Dreamcast lately and it's just fugly on the HDTV. I would love to find like a 480p 4:3 LCD to mount on my wall or something (lack of space for a CRT). Is Princess Crown costly, or average priced? I think I'll need an Action Replay too...
good thing about the next gen kicking off is well see more releases like thisone for the PS2 methinks
Greek? but it has Odin and Valkyries and such. or did they mix the Norse elements with Greek to create something entirely new? and me. i've had this game preordered since the 11th. As soon as i saw the videos for it i went out and preordered it the next day. Another one that looks good is Grim Grimoire. And it is being preordered by me today. Man i've really expanded my PS2 collection this week. From 1 to 6 games
Well, I actually read that it was based on "European Mythology". Sorry if I misled. I have heard that it is only a mediocre game. Someone in the gamengai forums posted (I think in the Odin Sphere thread) about it. I got my copy today though. THe book it comes with is nice. Hardback, and most of the illustrations are full color. It's also much larger than the game case. Too bad I got way too much bullshit going on in my life right now. As if the TV blowing out wasn't bad enough, I have misplaced my fucking passport which I have to find ASAP. Kind of pricey. I'd say $50 for a complete/mint copy. Maybe $40ish for used w/o a spinecard. Worth it though.

This game is getting rave reviews all around the net/print mags. EMG actualy gave it game of the month over Pokemon DS. I definantly looking forward to this and have it on my list of games to buy this summer (specialy since I have a ps3 and can finaly play ps2 games again). Bleh, 2D games look amazing on the PSP's screen (minus ghosting issues). Far as I heard, Princess crown showed up wonderfuly on the PSP screen. I believe the game lets you play in the original 4:3 display as well.
