I might play this game while I'm waiting it out for Fable 2...who knows, maybe I'll like this one more! I saw the graphics in action, it looks like an animated painting. I might try it when I get off work tonight.
For 480i 2D games, not really. The better boost is in the less signal loss (HDMI) over non-component. The sprites aren't stretched though. For 240p 2D games, it makes them look far worse (forces interlacing). For 3D games, apparently the anti-aliasing feature makes them look really nice. But to get the best of both worlds for all your games, you have to keep your PS2. Most of my games are of the 2D camp, so it's a no brainer for me.
I just have an HDTV. =( I don't have room for a CRT now. The PS2 looks like vomit over component, PS1 looks okay over S video. I don't really play PS2 though.
It seems that's all that the Japanese know about foreign mythologies; they never can seem to get their myths straight.
Nope. Depends on: 1: Your TV 2: Your cable It most likely has S-Video at best, so it will pretty much look like shit in comparison to a proper RGB CRT. They know more than me. But I think the idea is to borrow the names/characters and make their own story. Okami was the exact same in this respect, except they used Japanese mythologogical characters.
Unfortunately, I still think Svideo is going to look better then composite or some crap. Just saying, not too many people have the awesome RGB setup stuff, as much as I would like to.
it plays insanely beautiful on mine set. image couldn't be any better, seriously. big hdtv crts are getting hard to get, especially the one I have, it's a behemoth. 40 inch hdtv sony xbr - weighs 300 pounds h: but the quality is unmatched. so I guess ps3 might help your older games look better depending on the tv you're going to use.
HDMI and upscaling maybe. I'm guessing it gives a cleaner image. Is your CRT HDTV 720p princess isabella? Aren't those all 1080i?
I just bought a Pioneer DVD player that upscales to 1080i which looks fantastic on my HD CRT but when I run PAL discs on it you get what looks like interlacing lines on fast moving images even when you are running it in progressive mode on and resolution. Very odd however it works fine with NTSC discs. Yakumo
Once again, depends on the game. I promise you any 240p PS2 game looks superior on my trisynch arcade monitor than any HDTV (unless you have one that supports native 15khz signals). Upscaling is the enemy here. It would make the games look worse. My guess is that playing Odin Sphere through the PS3 would give it progressive mode which would work well as the sprites were designed w/ 480 lines in mind. Any component signal will have less signal loss than SVideo or lower. So, for most everyone in North America that played it on a PS2, it will look cleaner.
It's tough to find one of the fabled RGB moniters in the US isn't it? And pricey? I'd love to do so if I could. I've read that they don't run that big size wise too. Too bad you can't just use VGA moniters. I have a nice flat CRT moniter here that's VGA. I think my best and cheapest bet to keep from using my stupid HDTV for everything is to hunt down a CRT that has at least Svideo from a yard sale or something. The HDTV looks really fucking good for the 360, really fucking awful for the PS2 and Wii, 2D stuff through S video like Saturn and PS look good enough, everything else has an ugly smeary look. I don't notice any lag at least. I'm just glad Svideo 2D stuff is at least decent. The Saturn's 3D stuff looks cleaner then on PS for some reason too. Of course, I know it all sucks compared to a proper TV but you get what I mean. I can at least play stuff on it without crying. At least I have a cool 5.1 setup that sounds great for everything. Oh yeah, Dreamcast through VGA looks awesome on HDTV. It looks just a teeny bit less colorful as on the CRT VGA I have.
We in the UK may get shafted in almost every respect when it comes to games, but I do love RGB SCART. An RGB-capable monitor shouldn't be that hard to find, but you'll be stuck with a ~14" screen, typically. You'd be much better off with a modern-ish CRT with SCART.
I just started this game last night out of bordom. My ps2 is hooked up to a very modern 32" CRT SDTV via componet and it looks great IMO. The game is a little bit tough to get the hang off on normal if you ask me but once things start to click its a fun and very good looking game.
I fucking suck at fighting games. I've probably died fifty or more times over the course of the game and I'm playing it on EASY. I'm on the last boss battle bit now so I reckon there's a few more deaths coming up. That said, a lot of people seemed to find Velvet's book difficult, but I didn't struggle too much. I made it a priority to pump her HP XP as fast as possible and kept plenty of painkillers around. The range on her special is ridiculous so you don't really need to directly engage most of trickier enemies, just stay off screen and let the chain do the work. Between that and cyclone it's pretty easy to clear large mobs without even seeing most of them. A related trick that was invaluable for some boss fights - use Invisible, if you've learned it. You won't be able to attack physically, but you can still cast cyclones. If you've pumped your phozon bar up properly before the fight you can get up to or so 7 cyclones on them this way and there's bugger all they can do about it.
Well said. Honestly, if you want the most bang for your buck and are at least somewhat crafty, get an arcahide trisynch monitor and make a box for it. It should have a DSUB15 pin input. They shouldn't cost more than a few hundred bucks if your patient. Spend another $200 on an XRGB2 (not XRGB2+) and hook up your old consoles via JPN RGB. Thank me later. Yes, it's a lot of work, but if you play a lot of old games, it's worth it. The difference is very clear.
