Are they actually a better quality - After using the saturn in RGB i want to use my other consoles (Gamecube, Dreamcast, and in a week or so Xbox) in RGB too. However, looking at the prices, for both the Xbox and Gamecube the official RGB cables seem to be around £20, which seems a bit steep, and The official DC one seems v hard to find, So i was wondering if the official cables actually do give a better image/sound quality? Anyone know? if they don't, can anyone recomened a third party brand for each of the 3 consoles mentioned above?
For the modern consoles, you can get OFC cables with gold plated terminals - those would be the best to go for :smt023
If you don't mind using ebay you can pick up an Official DC scart cable pretty easy, they pop up every so often. Here are a couple - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4303&item=8150600326&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4303&item=8150558497&rd=1
Generally speaking, official cables are better than 3rd party; of course, there are exceptions. But of course a Sony/Sega/MS one is going to be better than a Mad Catz or Interact one.
I would think this would basically be a non-issue with RGB cables anyway, as compared with composite or s-video cables. For one, any RGB cable is better than any composite or s-video one. The very idea that you're going to be sending RGB instead of composite or S-video is supreme. Even comparing shielded and unshielded RGB cables in my experience doesn't make such a dramatic difference as shielded vs unshielded composite or S-video would. Spend the difference between first and third party cables on more games
Only get official cables especially for the cube and x-box i had 3rd party for both but they suck ass compared to the official ones i have for both of them now trust me it's worth the extra money once you start up your console in 60hz rayer:
There is one definate exception with official RGB SCART leads - the Sony PS2 ones... ...THEY'RE €45!!! And they don't even look that good! What's the deal - are they hand-made by Ken Kutaragi or something?!? Personally, I tend to get the unofficial ones with RCA sockets half-way down the cable so I can plug them into my hi-fi, and not my crappy mono TV speaker of ass.
Nintey bucks for some cables? As if Sony! Don't these things (the "official" cables) usually come with the consoles when you buy them?
Like I said...... It doesn't have to be official, just good quality. Official DOESN'T necessarily mean good quality! Do you remember the shitty RF leads that came with Ataris? I always left them in the box and got another, they were awful! www.ixos.co.uk - they do PS2 and XBox. They aren't cheap - they make proper, decent Hi-Fi interconnects. Click here (PS2) or here (XBox ) for an online shop that sells them. www.monstercable.com/monstergame/ - PS2, XBox and GameCube high quality S-Video, Composite or Component cables. Don't appear to do RGB, but I'll ask my friend who sells their products. They can be found in Comet in the UK. - Official Xbox Magazine See what I mean? OFC cable (not that crappy black stuff still with gold connectors on the end - what good is that gonna do?) is going to be way better than an official lead - plus it looks cooler!
But ehrm those unofficial ones you've mentioned are way more expensive then the official ones for the x-box and cube and those are really good. To see the results of those cables you've mentioned you'd really need some high end plasma tv to see any difference
Hahaha, plasma is absolute sh1te! You would see the difference on ANY tv, I guarantee! If you don't believe me, come over and check it out at my friend's shop. He works in a standard retail chain store, and his customers can't believe the difference using a better quality SCART lead on any product - DVD player, for example. They're more expensive funnily enough because THEY'RE BETTER!! And if you're SERIOUSLY into high quality audio from your system, then use a decent quality power cable. Check these sites out.... here, here (German), and here. Makes those SCART cables seem like a bargain, doesn't it?
I know expensive and quality cables , my boyfriend is an audiofile and we have a audio setup of arround 13500 euro's in the living room the cables are 200 euro's per meter. :smt030 But my point was that normal gamers will go for the official cables that offer very high quality for a resonable price (ok the sony ones are rediculous in price i know) But most people have a normal tv and the even more expensive cable would go to waste.
The only console I've ever seen that came with an RGB SCART cable was the Saturn. The Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube just come with crappy composite cables (though many people think these are proper SCART cables, not knowing they're just joined to an RCA-to-SCART adaptor), and pretty much everything else before that just came with even crappier RF adaptors. I remember when I first got my free RGB SCART cable for my PS when I got a discount card thingy in EB (back when they still existed) - that was cheap crap, it didn't have capacitors in it like they're supposed to, *and* the plug fell apart - but it was still miles better than the RF adaptor!
This looks damn cool. I'm sure I've seen one of these with gold plated connectors. http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?ca...55&PHPSESSID=000bab54400f4ec1ef936ed32a1a9171
I have one of them with Gold connectors :smt023 I didn't notice any difference in display quality though...
Cool :smt023 where did you obtain the cable, and for how much £/$/Y? I'd have to replace the Nintendo and Sony connectors with Din plugs though. But running everything through one cable would be great, instead of having a bloody great big 5 way scart block.
I remember buying it from Play-asia.com ......but they don't seem to have them anymore :smt009 I think it cost somewhere around $20....To be honest I wasn't paying much attention at the time ^_^ Sorry
Spider cable is, of course, pretty poopy for quality. If you REALLY want one, type in "spider cable" in google, or something like spider cable saturn.
