Just like title says. TLDR; newly installed Aladdin XT in 1.6 Xbox won't boot any games. (I see the EvoX logo on boot, can install / run Slayers/Hexen etc. Dashboards and XBMC work like a hot damn. No games. Either from disc or hard drive) Longer version Back in the OG's hayday I used to mod the shit out of these for friends/family whoever. Installed dozens of X2's and X3's. Recently had an urge to play some old games. Went through 3 used boxes before I discovered the Super Capacitor issue on <1.6's. The 3 units I had already had damage to their motherboards.. So, got ahold of a 1.6. Bit rough shape, but cleaned it up, seller said it worked fine (I don't have any non burned discs to test). Grabbed an Aladdin XT online, and installed it. Swapped drive out for 250GB IDE (had numerous issues with SATA-IDE bridges, so said fuck it and sourced a new 250GB IDE). Fired up Hexen, did the install. Seeing drives F and G with all my space. Can install homebrew until I'm blue in the face. Have been trying to get Halo going. Have downloaded it from multiple sources. FTP'd over. See it in the games list, hit A to start, and it says loading, then just goes back to the dash (EvoX). Same with Halo 2, and GTA III. Weird thing is, Destroy All Humans worked. WTF. I'm genuinely stumped. Also, burned discs seem to do the same. I didn't bother burning D.A.H. Any ideas? I never had this issue back in the day, and I'm out of ideas.. BIOS is an X3 with LBA 48 support (flashed from the Hexen disc). Tried the games on E, F and G. Same result. Goes to load, then just re-loads the dash. Tried another dash (e.g. XBMC, same behavior). Tried using the Slayers disc to prepare the drive too. Same issue. I did find an IDE-SATA bridge that seemed to work, and I get the exact same behavior on a 500GB sata disk, and a 120GB. I mean, I suppose the copies I'm finding are bunk.. but have downloaded from 3 different sources.. so I don't know if that's the case? Gah!
The only thing I could think of would be your retail dashboard. Is it up to date enough to play those games? That's probably not the problem but I figured I'd suggest it. Edit: Just saw that you tried Halo CE, I know that was a Launch title so that probably eliminates my suggestion lol.
Are you using the same media for every burn? what drive is in the console? I've heard people had to set their book type to DVD-ROM for some drives to work.
Using some crap generic media.. it's able to work well enough for Slayer/Hexen discs to boot.. and DVD2Xbox is able to read the Halo burn well enough to install it.. but the installed game does the same thing.
Not sure how to check that? Where would I? It's just an Evo M8 bios.. sooo.. wouldn't that be off by default?
Mother clucker!.. It was parental controls that were previously set on the original dash.. Wiping code, allows all the games to play now.
I don't think I'm aware of a total replacement for the original dash. One that supports, in all absoluteness, every conceivable option or feature it does.
