(off topic) I would like to point out that the only role Panasonic had in "the 3DO" was manufacturing it. 3DO was the name of the company who designed and came up with "the 3DO". Then, they pitched out the idea of manufacturing their system to big name electronic companies, Sanyo, Panasonic, GoldStar, AT&T, and Samsung. These companies paid 3DO royalties, and 3DO got money off every system that sold.(off topic) Now, uh... back on topic. Sega is cool!!! :-D
Very true. Also keep in mind SEGA has had massive success with Sega Toys and its licenses in the anime market such as Sakura Taisen. Sadly completely off the mark. Buying the 24% shares put Satome in the position for the buyout; and as of October 1st, he will buy out the remaining stock of SEGA. That is what the whole takeover is all about; it is the takeover and full buyout that has enabled Sammy to dissolve SEGA and make it merely a badge on their holding company. Sammy has been about hostility and aggression when it comes to SEGA. Public thrashings of the company both before and after the takeover, dumping respected and long-held executive staff, its backdoor dealings with CSK in the buyout behind SEGA's back after SEGA execs themsleves rejected anything to do with Sammy; the list goes on. Sammy hardly sees keeping SEGA as it was and relationships with SEGA staff and developers happy as a priority.
After playing Shinobi, Kunoichi and then Prince Of Persia: SOT that's the way a see. ;-) But Nights... damn... a new Nights not done by Sega themselves would become the most desastrous and disgusting things that I have ever see on my life as a gamer... :smt022 Falow
Um... http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/05/19/news_6098811.html What difference does it make if, even hypothetically, Sega have a say in the matter, if none of the key Sega staff are still there (or want to be there)? This is an "Atari" situation coming up pretty damn quickly. When you play Unreal Tournament 2004, are you playing an Atari game? Or are you playing a game with the Atari badge on it?
And THAT is the whole fucking point. SEGA never wanted this shit, and as the analayst said, the way Satome has treated the developers and SEGA staff, they wil hardly be as devoted as they were in the past - or even stay. Rikki Nakagawa and Mizuguchi are already gone - whos' to say there won't be more? SUPERB article here, debunking all these laughable claims that Sammy is somehow 'helping' SEGA and making very clear that SEGA never needed the 'saving' that so many uninformed idiots blather on about: http://idlethumbs.net/display.php?id=26
Is a pic of Sega SuperStars, Sega's first EyeToy game. http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/puzzle/segasuperstars/screenindex.html
Well as far as I can see it, much like what happened with Rare and many companies before and after only the Sega name will go to shit. It's traditional when all the developers bugger off they forge a new company and still produce the same high calibre games, just under a different banner. Satomi gets to play with himself because he has a cool badge, the gamers are happy because all the dev's fucked off under a new name (or to another major company) and still produce great titles. It's the people who made the games and the company what it is, they can just as easily do the same elsewhere. It's not really the total catastrophe people make it out to be.
The eyetoy game is meant to be superb accoding to journos and people who have played it., but I hanker after another real Nights played from the same perspective as the Sega saturn game as that is the only perspective to rack up those points with and see the whole feild with.God even speaking about Nights here is making me want to play the game. Greatest innovative peice of software ever made.It truly is that good. In the Night, dream delight, I wanna see you standing there, In the Night, dream delight, I found someone who really cares.
SEGA's whole situation is completely different from the comparisons you use. It was involuntarily raped and taken over by an aggressive and vengenful company after having strongly rejecting that company. There is no comparison to RARE. No exodus of key develoeprs on key franchises/titles beacsue of company policy. Nakagawa ans Mizuguchi left after Sammy. There is also no comparison to Atari, whihc drove itself into the ground and bankruptcy. SEGA was on its way to profitability and change and had no need nor desire for Satome's clan. And as for gamers being happy - Satome now owns all of SEGA's IP. If the developers do defect - how will gamers be happy when it wil be impossible for them to continue on Sonic, NiGHTS, Shenmue, Seaman, Phantasy Star Online, Shining Force et al? It is a major catastrophe and one that is completely unique in the way it carried out.
The methods for the company destruction may be different, but the end result is the same. The talented bugger off and start again. The gamers will be happy because new IP will be made. We all like to see sequels, but also we don't like to see old IP's whored out to death untill we are sick of the sight of them. They could just as easily forge a new name for themselves with their talent with new games, new ideas or be recruited by other major companies to take existing IP's into another dimension. Put it this way. Many of the developers franchises over the years they competed with say some nintendo franchises. When these talented folks escape the clutches of Satomi are nintendo going to let some creative people who stopped them from making money go and disappear? Hell no! They would put them on the payroll and use these talented chaps to their full potential to help make them more money. Imagine what directions they could take current nintendo IP's with their new ideas? Nintendo are famous for their innovation - they would hardly restrict some of the more famously innovative people on earth. I personally don't need to rely on past IP to gain my interest for a new game. If the game sounds good it will get my attention anyway.
Yes, I've no interest whatsoever in seeing Sonic or Nights in anything other than pachinko machines. /sarcasm What I really don't want is to see my childhood characters fucked over to make quick cash. That's exactly what I'm going to see. I'm angry about it. I don't know why anyone here wouldn't be...
Technically you won't be seeing any pachinko machines let alone any with the milked franchises. Pachinko is 1 of those things that was spawned and probably will remain in Japan. Seeing as most of us are not in Japan .........
