TLDR the guy who is the CEO of Mozilla foundation donated like $1k to prop8 and now OKC is going after those who access the site using Firefox.

Am I the only one who sees this as plain fucked up? Mozilla is a foundation, Firefox might be the only truly open source browser with wide support that isn't being used to collect your data by some corporation or government, but they are the bad guys because the guy who leads it now made a small donation to anti-gay marriage campaign.

The irony for me is that what OKC should be doing is stop using Javascript since the guy created it, but he didn't create Firefox.

Then again by being an asshole to the dwindling Firefox userbase you avoid pissing off most users while scoring some pinkwashing points, while by banning Javascript you are forcing yourself to rewrite your entire shitty site from scratch, but would make an actual long-term statement against homophobia

As always just do the bare minimum to pretend you care, like hollywood putting a token black and latino in every background but never give them a part above sidekick level

Firefox is a big pile of shit made by a foundation apparently led by a big pile of shit, so I wholeheartedly support this.

If OKC wants to turn away (presumably) ~18% of their users, that's their prerogative. There are other dating websites.

OKC seems like they want to spread awareness about Mozilla's CEO donating money to stop same sex marriage. Congratulations. You're helping OKC with their goal!

You can still click a button to continue...

Btw, you gotta be an angry holier-than-thou frustrated person for hating people because they love.

Funny how in the states, the same people that worship LIBERTY and FREEDOM want to force people to be "free" THE RIGHT WAY (a.k.a. their way).

No, I think it's fantastic. As an OKCupid user myself, I was happy to see that they took this stand. And I thought their reasoning was good as well: OKCupid is a site about creating love, so why not take a stand and inform users that they are using a browser created by a foundation whose CEO actively donated to help pass a proposition for which the sole purpose was to prevent or destroy love?

As for Javascript, come on. Modern sites need Javascript, it is a part of the web standard, do you expect them to shut down their site or bring it back to 1996 web standards because of that? Let's be real here.

As for doing the minimum to pretend to care... what do you expect OKCupid to do? Covertly infiltrate the Mozilla foundation and start an uprising? Looks like they're already doing that internally at Mozilla anyway. Oh wait, they already did--Eich is out as CEO. OKCupid is a major site and it wasn't going to be the only one. It was only going to snowball from here. The Mozilla Foundation came to its senses and gave Eich the boot before this situation got any worse and they lost more users than they're already bleeding. Good choice, now maybe we can move on past this and start working on the heap of steaming shit Firefox has become.

    Some online dating website.

the type of people that use them are the type of people that have little experience with computers and stick to IE.

Also lol @ Firefox being a "heap of shit" but js isn't. It's bloated and plagues the current internet, I wouldn't be opposed to a replacement.

Who cares so what he donated $1000. He can believe what he wants and other people can believe what they want. Chik-Fil-A had some anti-gay thing like a year ago and the place was packed with supporters. I didn't respect them for what they were doing. But, I respected them for having the balls to say it. I could care-a-less either way what happens.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I just attempted to sign into OkCupid using Firefox (just as a test, I don't normally use Firefox), and it let me sign in just fine. No messages, no errors. It let me sign in normally. So either what you're saying in fact never happened, or they did it for a while and then stopped.

I guess they stopped displaying the message saying the CEO of Mozilla is against gay rights once he resigned as was henceforth not CEO anymore: http://www.bbc.com/news/business-26881371

Fuck homophobia, and fuck the homophobes. Whether they are the CEO of a found or a company. So what if two men loves each other, and wants to marry. Well thankfully they can now get married (yes, I said married). In a church in Denmark. And no I am not just talking about registered partnership. I am talking full on priest marrying the two men, and or for that matter. If it is two lesbians. Then they can get married too. And if you babble about "traditional" marriage in the bible sense. Then it is more messed up, in the old testament. Than two men or two women marrying each other. And I think I have said my piece for now. And so what if a man likes two holes better than three, or a woman likes three holes better than two.

Sounds like you know nothing at all about OKCupid's user base.

It's a dating website. The tagline is "FREE ONLINE DATING!!!11!" I think we can exactly extract from that the majority of the user base.

And OK Cupid can believe (and say) what they want as well. Free speech goes both ways (unlike marriage in the US).

The people who care are people who see no reason, legal or moral, why married couples get a lot of benefits that aren't granted to homosexual couples, both those legally married and those who can't legally get married.

Sounds pretty retarded to me. I use Firefox because it is a good web browser with a good deal of plugins, not because the owner or someone that programmed for it has views that I like. I I am pro-marriage for anyone, and I don't like Oreos. When they rolled out their little ad campaign, I didn't go out and eat them to support that. What the hell is wrong with people? Firefox is a behemoth that was created and maintained by many people, & I am sure they all have their own differing opinions.

As blotter said, OK Cupid can do as they wish, but I look down upon them for such a brash decision, more so than a Firefox CEO donating his own money to his own stupid ideals. At least he didn't force Firefox to show a warning message when visiting any pro-marriage, pro-equality, pro-whatever sites that he doesn't like. That would be equally stupid.

Tired of people viewing corporations as a single thinking entity whenever they see something like this. Oreo's aren't pro-gay. They are a fucking sandwich cookie. Firefox isn't anti-gay, it's a web browser, and just because some higher up for any company says some shit doesn't mean that whole company agrees, or that even every user of that product agrees.

If a CEO doesn't represent the company they operate, then who does? He has the most influence of anyone in the entire company.

I am sorry, I just don't think like that. The product they put out is what represents a company to me, not the people behind it with whatever views they have.
