I play Super Mario Bros 2 (Disk system) a lot and have tried to beat it many times. The life-trick is fairly simple to perform and thus the motivation to clear it is definitely increased. 100 lives or so doesn't sound impossible once you get the hang of each stage. And the designs are often so mean that it's really funny if you screw up.
Nice topic idea! My most often played would definitely be Super Metroid. When I was very young it would be 6 - 8 completions per year, now its down to a full play through almost every year.
Pretty much this, except that I keep coming back to the Virtual Console release. Really fun. Also, I can quit and come back anytime I want, at the same place I stopped. ;-)
I play Earthworm Jim 2 for Genesis all the time. I'd like to try the SNES version, but I'm in a sticky SNES situation (that doesn't sound right...)
I would be playing Super Pieriot for MSX, if it wasn't back in America now. I'll have to go with either the FCD of Kid Icarus or SSFX for 3DO.
the truly original Tetris was on a Soviet clone computer actually with a monochrome screen. I have never seen this version in the wild, only in documentaries, but I know it predates the version released with the GB by several years.
Pah, you young whippersnappers, stating that a game from the late 80s or 90s is old. Me I do play Asteroids (on a real arcade) which comes from 1979.
I played it again at the show when you were here in Athens and it literally burnt an image in my head. I love that machine for its unique vector graphics and simple gameplay, wish I owned one! Jamtex, I've sent you a PM by the way;-)
Black Tiger by CAPCOM. I love this game have done for about 20 years since I first played it in an off license of all places. I play it on the PS2, on the PSP and under emulation on my Xbox with a HORI joystick and the difficulty cranked up to the max. For me, a little bit of gaming heaven
