I bought what i believed to be a chipped ps2 a about 5 years ago when mine got fried in a dodgy mod chip incident. all these years it never ran backup ps2 dvd`s just backup ps1, ps2 cd and rip games (along with any dvd/cd retail) thought i`d look more into it today after years in the cupboard and see if it was the media or old burner i had. read the back about 5 mins ago and it reads Model no. DTLH30002 S, debugging station for playstation 2. all these bloody years.

And don't you have needed to patch the PS2 discs as Master ones?

rips on cd-r play fine, i only looked into that today and downloed losers discpatcher. i think i might be using pretty crap media too. h30002 only uses dvd-r (not +r +rw -rw) right?

Isn't it supposed to have a huge TEST instead of a PS2 logo?

Not all of them do. I now have 3 Tests, one has "TEST/PS2" on it, the next has "TEST" & the last has "PS2", just like a retail unit. You'd have to look at the back, or check the version info from the start menu to know it was different.

    BTW: nice find, DRussian!

 Might be worth rooting around in the back of the cupboard, to see if there's a few TOOLs lurking in there?!:110:

Seriously though, I do wonder how much interesting kit is out there, where the current owners don't realise what they really have? I will admit to checking the backs of PS2s I come across in the hope of finding lost debugs...

The number of people who sell debug PSXs on ebay without knowing what they are always surprises me. How do you just end up with that stuff?

both my 360 xdk and ps2 test/debug have been bought off ppl selling them on the streets, must be right place right time. i bought the ps2 as a chipped unit, at the time i wasnt looking out for model numbers etc. when i came across the xdk i was, but then again it was grey with a large white bit on the top :icon_bigg

was just looking at the discs that came with it, got excited for a minute remembering they were silver discs with printed names on them. they appear to just be backups ripped to cd with limited edition printed in various fonts on them.

That's actually another way to tell what you have. Retail units have 2 DVD logos on top, one for DVD-video & the other for DVD-rom - whereas Tests only have the DVD-rom logo (and, as you said, cannot play DVD video). That only helps when you have the PS2 up close, its too difficult to see on ebay photos...

perhaps he's like me and has yet to use the dvd function? (I did once. and that was to prove to my friend a unmodded ps2 can play burnt movies)

That's exactly how I managed to get my Test PS2 as the seller in the US had no idea what it was and thought it was worthless.

Oh wow. How unfortunate for you! :crying: Could you spare some more tears and tell me how much it actually sold for?

Awesome. I love hearing people getting units like this for cheap. Was it one labelled "TEST" on the side? I would guess not since he didnt know what was so special about it.

I got the Test unit for a little under £50 including P&P from the US, which was a steal. I had to repair it and replace a couple of parts, but nothing major. It could do with a replacement laser soon.

Yes, it has TEST plastered across the top and the seller still seemed to miss the point of that. :eek:h:
