Yeah it's great isn't it. I stumbled across a German "DTL-H30001 E" on Ebay once. Ok, it was broken and needed a new laser but was advertised really badly. The pictures were rubbish and it looked like any other PS2. Nowhere did the auction mention the word "TEST".

Picked it up for 50EUR with shipping included (works out about $60) a couple of years back!

the master discs i`m burning seem to read the first time they`re tried after burning (which is 1x burning on high quality verbatim dvd-r discs) then they fail to be recognised after this or at take upwards of 5 tries to get them working :crying: seems like laser trouble, but then again it will run retail from any region ps1 and ps2 and cd rips of games first time.

Oooh - classic signs of early laser trouble!

No probs though, it takes the same laser as the SCPH-30003R consoles in the UK. I think it's called a KHS-400B, but perhaps someone can confirm that for me. Also, I think a KHS-400C will do the trick ifyou can't find a B one.

    Yes that's precisely it ;)

You can also instal an HD7/ Khs- 400-R with PS2 lenschanger, but prefer 400-B and then 400-C, they are far more resistent

I really didn`t want to have to remove the warranty sticker on the machine, not because of warranty lol just to keep it mint. It`s a shame its having this trouble, like i said all official discs run first time. the dvd-r games i burned as masters played the first time and then after like the fifteenth attempt if at all. maybe i`m not using the disc patcher right. may sound very stupid but i waan`t too sure what to put in the exe filename part. i was just using iso`s from bittorrent and patching them as masters. maybe changing the region too.

If you're that concerned about the label, heat it up with a hairdryer so it goes all hot and floppy, then yoink it off carefully with some tweezers (or something like that) and it'll come off perfectly!

i`m not overly concerned really, i just don`t want to do it unless i`m sure the laser is going. so is the laser not strong enough to read the dvd-r discs. it reads cd rips, dvd and cd official games first time every time. just not dvd-r, but it does sometimes. maybe its the way i`m burning them. or the media i`m using. i`m happy to swap the laser but if i do it and the discs still dont work then i wasted money.

Try using some decent high quality discs. Then burn them at the slowest speed. My TEST stations play my burned discs fine. I use Verbatim CD-R and Sony DVD-R.

If I were you I'd put a fresh laser in. By the time you've bought all the blank discs you won't be too far off a PS2 laser in terms of price. Plus there's no guarantee that your TEST will play slower burned discs anyway.

You might be lucky, it might just need a really good clean and and some new lubricant.
