For a minute there I thought they were going to do something to make their games more enjoyable.

Just what I had in mind when I spent $500...

I wonder if this makes the machine tax deductable
    now?

old news Jim! Call me selfish but, how many watts would my PS3 consume while doing all this complex math while idle? Wouldn't that also reduce my HDD's life expectancy?

Yes, expensive. $80 just plugged in for a year, idle. Yes, HDD would last shorter.

80$ years extra tax for cancer from everyone on the globe. Hmm.. I guess the rich people who can afford a PS3 can also afford the bill and help society. Good thing i m not getting one!

However, if it is assisting in research related to Parkinsons disease Barc0de you may salute the demise of your PS3's HDD in your later years!

Not being all mushy here, but my best friend was married a few weeks ago. Her father was attending the ceremony and I was shocked to see just how much of an effect his Parkinsons had made in an incredibly short period of time.

I'd willingly free up some of my HDD life span, a bit of additional cash and the like to help people like him and possibly my self one day. It's a hellish disease.

Nice one Sony - you've just gone a notch or two up in my opinion over night!

I'm not entirely sure how this ties in with the UK Governments aim to pistol whip British citizens into reducing their carbon footprint by 20% in the next few years? One of the many suggestions to cut power usage was to stop using stand-by, stop leaving electrical equipment on whilst not in use and to use A rated items.

Just OT, did I hear correctly that Denmark voted to ban any electrical appliances that are below A rating? Anyone seen the ratings for any of the next gen consoles?

Can anyone confirm that this can be disabled before I allow my machine to download the update?

Marsil, you have to download and install the software first. All the update does is place the Icon in your XBM to download it. Even when you download it you can set it to OFF or autostart after 10,20 or 30 minutes. Or you can run it right away.

Im seeing +30 watts vs PS3 idle when running it, not bad at all. Plus, the PS3 ia already giving the PCs running versions of this a run for its money!

    How's this for nice?
The BBC is reporting that everyone who purchased a PS3 at the London launch of the console received a free 46-inch HD television and a taxi ride home.
    Holy!
That's About GBP 250,000 worth of televisions and cab rides to more than 100 gamers. The guy at the front of the line waited a whopping 36 hours."

Actually, that is a reason to hate them MORE. Shaft the US with obscene shortages (week+ line waits), then shaft Europe with a longer wait until launch and obscene conversion rates, THEN shaft everyone who couldn't make it to one particular launch event...

If I'd have known about It I'd have been there since early yesterday - max out the credit card on the PS3, take it home, flog the PS3 and then I'd have a 46" TV!
