So I've installed a ONEchip into my PSOne console, connecting it following this diagram:

    [GALLERY=media, 599]Pm41a by Andy Latham posted Jan 9, 2016 at 8:52 PM[/GALLERY]

But I can't seem to play any backed up games. All I get is an "insert playstation format disc" error. Original discs still work fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
    Andy

Bought the chip pre-flashed from someone? Or flashed it yourself?

It was pre-flashed and attached to a small pcb. I soldered wires from the pcb to the locations on the motherboard shown in that picture.

I only have PAL games. I've tried burning an existing image to disc and also I've tried making a backup of one of my own games. With the copies I've tried that aren't my own, a couple showed the error I mentioned, while one took me to the CD player, and another just took me to the main menu as if no disc was inserted.

Sounds like not the most amazing laser paired with some sub par burns.

See if you can obtain a original NTSC game to test the console instead or play around and get a better burn (use good quality AZO style or blue bottomed CD-R).

If an original out of region game does it too then check wiring :) I remember BadAd especially saying there were some tricky PSX/PSOne that required a cap to be fitted.

Andy , if your going to burn games use Nero as it produces better burns than IMGburn ( more C1/C2 errors ). Also Taiyo Yuden CD-R are fantastic might want to pick some up , avoid ebay tho they will most likely be fakes.

    grab them from..............

btw try different ISO's as the one your trying make be defective and also try different burn speeds

Thanks a lot for the help guys, I'll try all this out and see what happens!

I've been using Alcolhol120 for copying as it has a "Playstation" setting. One thing that's probably not in my favour though is that my disc writer is 16x at its slowest and all the recommendations I've seen have said to go for 10x or less.

actually i burn at X16 with my Liteon's , X12 and X24 produces more C1/C2 errors so X16 is the sweet spot for me.

Yes, there is no rule for ideal speed, it's what ever suits your writer and the media and varying combinations

I've posted it many many times on this forum, unfortunately not many know anything about jitter and errors (or even how to test it) and just repeat the "burn at 4x" nonsense.

Is there a way of testing for errors then?

yes check the pic below of a Dreamcast game i did , also not all burners can ' scan ' tho. Some will give a inaccurate result , if you want to see if your burner can give accurate results go to ClubMyCE forums and ask there.

To find the sweet spot for CD-R's i burned the same game at X12 then X16 then X24 and scanned each disc , X16 gave the least C2 errors which are the nasty ones.
