For a few years now I have been planning a full clean and repair of my old laptop. When any of this will come to fruition is anybodies guess but I hope to get it finished before the end of the year.

    Proposed repairs:
    New Keyboard: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HP-PAVILLION-...rComponents_KeyboardsMice&hash=item4aabd56de4
New Touchpad:(Probably need entire assembly but only buttons are missing): CANT FIND ONE.
New Speaker/power board. These are all as one. It blew shortly after warranty went and I never bothered replacing it. Speakers don't work and power button appears to have a short. To get it to turn on you dont press the button you press halfway down the speaker grill.: CANT FIND ONE.
New battery & notes of how to prolong life. - PISS TAKE PRICES. PERHAPS REPLACE CELLS IN CURRENT ONE?
New Charger one i have has a tear in it and battery power constantly flickers on and off (bad when it wont hold a charge): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAPTOP-AC-POW...Accessories_PowerSupplies&hash=item230f29aa27
Rubber feet )heard a trick about bike innertube and superglue for this one.

If anybody can find cheaper or the parts I can find I would be greatly thankful.

Aren't you the guy who thinks cleaning electrical components with water is a good idea? I don't see you repairing anything anytime soon.

Oh you're one of those people. Despite the fact other people said they had used it and it had worked. Cunt.

How do you think I got 3/4 of my video game collection before I sold it? All sold as junk/unworking before I repaired them.

Firstly, this should be in the computer the computer support forum.

Secondly, learn to use eBay. The battery is 20 quid - NOT expensive at all for a laptop battery. A genuine original HP battery will likely cost you over £100 new. The damn speaker/power board you're after is on there, too.

THEE Retro recommends aftermarket stuff? This is a surprise! On the subject of the speaker/powerboard I saw those and was actually aiming for the entire top grill(Power board, Speaker and the plastic bezel its self) as both parts need replacing and figured it might be cheaper.

Best option is to look for a complete laptop with a cracked screen or fried motherboard when you want something like that... although shipping may cost a bit more.

    I second this.

There are a couple on ebay. one is around £50 delivered and other is auction with no bids.

best bet is to get a broken laptop with the parts needed like the speaker bezel.

sometimes you can even upgrade a few parts from the exrta part from this donor laptop

i tracked down the speaker and powerboard and bezel all together (assumably). Sellers just do not give a damn. One picture and no information on whether the speaker is attached or working. I'm going to try message him.

I'm going to watch the ebay auctions and see what comes of them. If they still have 0bids by the time they begin to end ill go for them as that would probably be everything I need all in one go and then some.

An Acer at that price? You have to be kidding me. The build quality of their most expensive and best quality stuff isn't all that good let alone their cheapest budget crap.

    Beware of aftermarket batteries.

I had an old OLD OLD Dell Inspiron 7500 that could run off dual batteries without changing anything but the weight and the loss of an optical drive while the second bay was being used for a battery. Cool factor? 8 HOURS of battery life. Friend watched 18 episodes or so of GTO while we waited all night for the Wii release.

Flash forward about 1.5 years later. The cheapy Chinese battery wouldn't hold a charge more than a night or two if unused, started to die early, etc. The Dell branded battery I paid 2x for? Still working like a champ and did until about 2 years ago when the screen hinge broke again and I put it to pasture on a shelf. Now its missing a working plate to hold a harddrive in...

Wouldn't mind restoring the whole beast like this purely for sentimental reasons though.

TL;DR version: Cheap batteries=you get what you pay for.
