May be I got the second batch or something along those lines, but I find my 360 easy to play, have no issues with noise and actually appreciate the 720p previews, since HD content is so scarse, and I use 360 with DELL FPW2405 monitor, which supports up to 1080p natively. I say give it a chance. Hopefully we'll eventually get homebrew running on it, and it'll be a bliss (XBMC harnessing power of 360 3 cores?)
I dont know if its just me, well, it is just me, but Ive always been repelled by the idea of a console with a brain.... put in the CD/Cart, press the power button.... and play, plain and simple, hell, back in DC days, I was surprised as hell first time I started up the thing and it gave me a date setter and such.... but I love the DC, it is not as complicated as the 360, plus it auto loads. Ive decided for myself that I will only buy the damn thing if games like MGS and Resident Evil start coming out exclusivley for that console, otherwise, its the Rev and PS3 all the way. Like WolverineDK said, I dont need a machine that eats, shits and makes a cup of coffee in the morning. Keep in mind that Im damn hypocritical and am ussually open to new ideas, so the 360 doesnt bother me that much, but Id rather keep it the old way.
no surprise, i don't like the 360...different reasons: 1) since i didn't like the xbox very much, the 360 would have a hard time getting in love with me - FAILED 2) no interesting games...and i really mean "NO" !! 3) the handling...same as assembler said...
I'm glad that I'm leaving the videogame scene just in the nick of time. If I were to continue with my CS Degree and still be engrossed with videogames, I would end up disliking how it has evolved and will continue to evolve as we speak. The execs in those companies are selling "fashionable individualism" such as face plates, themes, etc. This is stuff to make you look unique, but you and thousand other people own it, so I guess that doesn't make you unique. You see this in the cellphone market where you can change out face plates and download themes for a nominal fee and customize it the way you want. The same reason why people buy a new iPod when a new version comes out, just to make them feel unique. Its all gimmicks really with what you just described, Assembler. Its to appeal to the kids who must have whats "in" otherwise they'd be the laughing stock in school and become an outcast. We were all in that point in our lives once and some of us grew out of it. The industry still wants to make money so they are simply doing what worked before, but with different items that appeal to this generation. The reason I said I'm glad that I left the scene in the nick of time is because I feel it will become more and more flashy with useless gimmicks where people might solely make the decision of buying a game or a console simply because there is a face plate that is their favorite color, or theme that appeals to them. I'm not like that. I just want a console that plays the games I want to play and doesn't make me go thru at least 2-3 non-game related menus before I can get the game to load. You don't get that with all systems made before the DC (as well as the DC). The PS2 has a UI before the game starts, but its only accessible if there is no disc inside, the same for the DC and its not cluttered. The same for the GC, just pop in the disc and you're good to go! That's why I don't see myself buying a 360, or Revolution, or PS3 when those come out. I see virtually the same game coming out generation after generation for each new console but with better graphics. The only evolving platform I still have interest in is the PC platform where AI and physics are continuously evolving as well as cutting edge graphics. I like playing PC games more than console games and will continue buying hardware/games for it if I know that I will enjoy them. I'm happy with the consoles and games I own currently and I don't see myself buying any new console. It's time for me to retire and enjoy the games that I enjoyed when I was younger ..
Im glad the belgian post turn the 360 i ordered around and sent it back to the states. After all the waiting and hassle with this launch has really soured my opinons of Microsoft.Im sure a year from now things may be better with that system but the Rev and PS3 wil be out and it will be a afterthought........ Not that im getting a PS3. I have a hard drive and 3 games with a headset if anybody needs them.
Madhatter, please forgive me when I say: QUITTER!! Hahaha. Good times. I think I'll be sticking in for the next generation since the Revo has me revved up. 360 didn't wow me at all. My only reason for buying a new console is for the games, and to agree with some of the earlier posts, I haven't seen a game yet for the 360 that makes me want to buy it. I think DOA4 comes to mind, but honestly, I can't justify that. I didn't like 3, and I still have my PS2 for Hardcore. I will end up buying a PS3, but that's because there's MGS4, which my husband can't live without. I'm sure there will be another game. Possibly an RPG of some sort.
Kitty, you don´t have to be a quitter, when it comes that you are stopping the new generation race, heck I am always a retro buyer (is that an English word ?). Where I buy an older console instead, when the chance hits in a good way So I will buy a PS2 by a childhood friend who has taken care of his PS2, and it is a good model , and not a slimline version. Well, since the XBOX is so cheap, I am thinking buying one, just for the harddisk abilities, and the whole homebrew scene. But it will still take some time
I was just joking around. I actually prefer retro systems myself. Saturn remains my favorite system, and I finally got a Duo-R for Christmas. I just can't quit the habit and must continue to keep up with the newest systems.
PGR3 has really grown on me, esp in the first person view. It's got unrealistic handling and no car damage, brake fade , etc but that is a bit extreme to expect. I do get to drive nuremburgring all I want though !! Bliss.
I'm retiring ;-) , not quitting! I have to have at least 5,000 hours worth of gameplay currently. I still buy a game for the PSX or genesis here and there. I guess I'm set for life lol.
I agree with what madhatter says, but I wouldnt retire out of it, quit or retire. I am annoyed at how you said this is turning into the cellphone industry, hopefully they wont have ads for new 360 skins on TV, like they do for new tunes for your cell. Shit, old consoles are fantastic, as soon as I get more cash, Im planning on starting to round them all up, so when my kids grow up they will be able to enjoy what Ive been enjoying..... although they will prolly have a diff mindset then me, my childhood was based on Famicom and such, it was called Dendy in Russia, and had an elephant as a mascot, plus we had orange carts, mine broke like a virgin after about 3 years, got a new one, broke too.... anyway, this is what Im talking about http://hawanja.com/dendy.htm Anyway, I doubt you would ever be able to recreate the feelings of old games with new systems, for me its 16 bit all the way... But the corporations know what they are doing, for them this is a way to make more money, for us, or some of us, this is a disaster, sort of, its becoming waaaay too popular and commercialized. Ive had this on my mind for a while...
I think the 360 has tons of potentional (already a known fact) but the price and lack of games I want to play is stopping me from investing in one right now. DOA4 is fun and looks great. This may not be the technical pinnacle of 3D fighting, but it definitely is a game I want to put more time on. Unfortunately the console makers are looking to go to the 'set top box' format for their systems, something that I'm not a fan of for my gaming experience. The whole reason I like consoles is the ease of use. I don't want to have to configure anything, baring the system time. I have a desktop PC for all my install/patch/DLL gaming adventures, I don't need another computer. The big test is to see what Sony does with their user experiences. Xbox Live is a solid service and one that is very user friendly. I don't play console games online much, but I hop on Xbox Live here and there for some real world fun. Once a gamer, always a gamer. I don't play nearly as much as I used to, but still love to grab my Saturn and site down for some Guardian Heroes fun. :rambo: ^_^_^ Btw, I can't wait for the Revo, one next gen system I am definitely owning one at launch. :020:
Word pal, I tried the X360 and I'll tell you not to buy one until a good modchip gets to the market (at least that's what I'm going to do) About online, well there are 2 reasons why companies want you to go that way: *So you pay the service (as some people already said) *Becos is way cheaper to let you play against cheetos-eating-zombies that are 4000 miles away ratter than doin some decent AI bots to play with. About the dashboard and shit, well is the stupid bling-bling that casuals want, like the CDROM games back in the early 90s and the 3D in the 80s. Honestly is a piece of crap for me, since the only reason why I still play with consoles is becos I dont have to deal with a OS, nor with installing proceses that take about 15-20 mins. If that's the future of consoles then they can kiss my money goodbye...
Agreed. When I want to play games, I do it on my TV. If I want to do more than that, I use my PC. I still don't see any need for convergence, it's not like I'm going to ditch either any time soon. I've never really enjoyed online games due to setup/lag/idiot issues, and none of those seem to be going away. I have better things to be doing with my time than spending hours getting a console online, waiting 10 minutes before gameplay each time I want to play, and then being called a "fagcock" by some spoilt brat who hasn't reached puberty. Multiplayer for me means getting some mates over - that way I don't have to run the time-wasting gauntlet of actually finding someone worth playing games with. And if they insult my mother, I'm right next to them.
Right, and every person here who draws their paycheck from the game industry thanks you. Obviously the mod kiddies are the ones the industry is trying to attract. If your only intention is to mod the console and steal the games, i'm glad you find no intrest in a 360. If you are in a place where the 360 costs $1500 and the games cost $100, that's one thing, i can't officially support it but i understand it. You on the other hand want the games, but don't think they're worth paying for. I find that insulting.
I'm really torn here, I have some extra cash comming shortly and I cant decide if I should get a 360 or a DS lite. I already have a reg DS so its kind of a double purchase(but godamn the lite is sexy!). I basically bought a projector to do HD 360 display but I'm really having trouble justifying the purchase considering threads like this and I really can't say any of the games out are a must have for me. What shall I do guys? I wish I could rent one for a few days first(ah the good ole days). Ace, Old Programmer, what are you working on for 360 I might want :110:
DOA4 is great. The gameplay if you like doa, is fun.the extras you can get add a lot of gameplay. Perfect Dark: I played the launch games and I can honestly say perfect dark is a joke, if you're a fps manic like me, the gameplay is shallow, and there's no interaction with the environment. The game consists of exploding barrels, turrets, and crappy a.i. The enemies just run at you and side step. Project gotham: There is great graphics, but the point of owning all the cars is negated by the fact that within a few races, you can by the supercharged atom which is as good as or better than 90% of the cars. The other cars just look bling. The other cars handle poorly, are incredibly inaccurate (the 2000 cobra r is missing a gear). The controls are pure oversteer and twitchy. Full Auto: Everything blows up, but the game has little replay. I'd say 360 feels premature. It's like the early days of dreamcast when all you had was penpen and blue stinger... DS has incredible games right now. It's just a handheld though. PSP has some great games, but it's expensive to run. Mem sticks, games, etc. It's like feeding a second playstation 2. PS2. Solid games, but the age is showing. XBOX.. bleh. I'd say buy some key ps2 titles, and get a DS with some great games. plus online play is free, unlike 360,xbox.
What else are we supposed to think with the design of the 360 and the purported design of the PS3? Of course, I am excluding the piracy portion of modding which I do not support. However, if you look at all the "bells and whistles" that the 360 has, it seems as if they did nothing more than run through some of the feature lists for some of the hacked dashboards and stole features from them. Yes, there are some people who want to watch movies, change their themes (too many in my opinion) and listen to music on their Xboxes. These are the people who modded their original Xboxes to do just that.
You should try PD with a friend. Their co-op is very good as long as your friend is good at videogames too. Don't play it with your girlfriend unless she knows how to play FPS games.
