Just how rare are the orange memory cards for the original Xbox? I own one complete with cap, but not sure if they are rare / collectable / sort after or if it's just no big deal.
The orange memory cards were only ever available to beta testers for Xbox Live before it launched. It was a very limited production and it's rare to come across them. They are definitely a collector item. I know there's a few people around here who have one that might be able to give more info. @XboxSurgeon @Borman - I think borman has like 3 or 4 of them. Lol
They're expensive little buggers. Theres a lot of people with multiple of them so it's uncommon to find one but they are in high quantities. Price wise I dont know, but I'll call up @Charels since he's gotten a few recently.
With the cap Id pay more than one without, not that I need one. Ive spent as little as like 15 bucks for one without. Usually the best deals are ones that include the entire set of Xbox Live beta stuff.
The memory cards themselves aren't that uncommon as they pop up on ebay for $50-70 pretty often, I haven't seen one pop up on ebay recently though where it had the cap and the seller actually knew what they had. Be very careful with the cap though the little clips on the side can break very easily and that can lower the value quite a bit.
I guess it would be wise to copy my XBL profile to one or two of these before the HDD crashes. I believe I have an orange memory card in the wrapper. I'll see if I can find it for a picture. Edit: Not sealed but in a plastic baggy with 4 stickers for the memory card and instructions on how to apply the sticker to the memory card and insert the memory card into the controller.
Not so rare, I've found 3 here in Japan in the last 6 months for less than 1000 yen each. One of them was even in a retail store in Akihabara. That doesn't mean they don't command high prices on eBay though, the going rate seems to be around $60 - $80 USD (what I managed to sell mine for).
I also found one on a Japanese site and managed to snag it for like 2000 yen. That might just be because Japan doesn't really seem to care about the Xbox at all though.
or directly to your (online/normal-usb) storage? its USB so its "easy" to read those on the PC. Also, are the pcb and chip id the same of later black retail?
Here is my Orange Memory Card. This came with the beta tester kit, including two games (Re-Volt & NFL Fever) and the beta Xbox Live software along with a headset with the same GamerTag that was on the memory card software.
Interesting. I was unaware of any connection between the headset and the account on the memory card. Here are some that I own that the Xbox development team used in testing Xbox Live. Each has an Xbox Live account that is "XboxLive#", with "#" being replaced with the number on the card.
I have one as well, without the cap though. Now I really want a cap for mine. Is it all ironic I use my xbox live beta testers memory card while testing my homebrew xbox live service?
My orange memory card has a number on the cap. It's just written in pen on a sticker on the back. Probably helped them match up the headset with the right memory card. Oh, I should also mention that the kit came with a T-Shirt. The shirt says "I've got great hands." on the front and Xbox Live Beta and the Xbox logo on the back. I still have two of the shirts. My wife gets a laugh out of them when I wear them to bed.
I'll have to check contents of the memory cards and headphones tonight. How did they know what gamertag you were going to choose? Have 5 kits and none have the gamertags on the microphone, maybe they sent out pre-made Xbox Live accounts to the press/media to make it easier to get online and play.
They asked us ahead of time, because I was press. I don't think the headset provided with the regular public beta test had your GamerTag on the side. I've got two of those headsets and at one time I had two of those silver cases. One must be from the public test.
That's super cool. I don't have any idea how I would ever access it, outside of finding someone at MS to help out. I had a great contact over at Microsoft during the Xbox / Xbox 360 era. Now, not so much. However, if I really wanted to contact someone from Microsoft, two of my family members work in the Xbox One division right now. They showed me pictures of their white Xbox One developer systems. Very cool.
I love these posts awesome info and pictures. If you ever want to make a full backup of your live account: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/xbox-live-accounts-xqemu-and-mu.60352/ (if atleast you can make a full backup, extracting and/injecting afterwards can be helped with with full backups) I hope the trick works on these beta accounts aswell (you can even try it in Xqemu if you make a full hdd backup of an excisting xbox that was connected to live atleast once) You can even readout what if set the pincode was. @TheFallen93 If you need some other live (retail, no beta) accounts for testing, you know where to find mine? @Evil Avatar My tutorial doesnt help you get access on a 360 or One tho.. you need to contact MS I think.
@CodeAsm I have a few of my own laying around, plus I can just create new ones as I need for testing since it's just being entered into my own genealogy database.
I would be interested in buying a cap, or a memory card and cap if anyone is selling. I really just need a cap to complete my set, but am open to what you'd be willing to sell.
