I have a friend who just found an Orange Xbox live controller at a Value Village in Lynnwood WA. After a bit of research it seems the controller was handed out to employees? I cant find much more info on it. Does anyone know anything about this controller?
It was given out to beta testers for the Xbox Live service along with an accompanying orange memory card. They're pretty rare, some dude on NA sold his for $400 last year. Safe to say your friend caught a crazy deal.
Dammit. I live out here too. First the orange halo console, now this....: Nice find for your friend though.
Yeah I live around there too and I thought I was lucky finding an orange memory card for a couple bucks.
I have found one 2005 complete Launch Team 360 with all the trimmings, but not at Value Village, Goodwill, Deseret Industries or any of those other places. I have bought a set of three 360 XDK stress kits from Goodwill of Seattle but it was through ebay so I paid dearly.
Yeah I've seen a launch team kit or two pop up in Seattle goodwills shopgoodwill page they always seemed to end way higher than they were worth though so I was alway out bid very fast.
Still to this day I don't get why orange was never made a colour for accessories or even the console. They looked great.
Couldn't agree more. It would have been so cool if the original Xbox consoles had a similar line to something like the funtastic N64 consoles.
It's unfortunate because it didn't come with the orange memory card. I'm really wondering how many of these controllers were produced.
No they weren't. It has nothing to do with the Xbox Live beta test. Beta testers got the memory card, not the controller. Controllers seem to have been employee only. Prices have dropped a bit since I opened peoples eyes to then, but they can still get 200-400 depending on who is looking, possibly up to 500-600. It really depends on a lot of factors. Unfortunately numbers were seemingly lost for much of Xbox manufacturing. But your looking at a few hundred of these at least just based on the evidence I've seen.
Most likely the Ship-It! gift of Xbox Live services, but even the cool Xbox Live is 5ive controllers were sent to media/press members so who knows. I'd love to see the date stamp inside of the controller. Also I've only seen one orange controller S with the normal black Xbox jewel so far.
I'd say it is likely that some got shipped elsewhere, PR being what it is and all that. But they certainly weren't shipped to standard Live testers. Id be curious to know if they shipped to developer testers of live who received the beta kits, but no one remembers anything hah.
