They are actually pretty cheap here.
Prices for Component/D-terminal are crazy, like $180 on eBay.

Okay.. but $130 is still expensive for a cable..

Youre better off just using RGB for a standard definition console like the gamecube. save yourself $125

SCART RGB gets you 480i. Component/VGA gets you 480p.

I used a GameCube SCART cable plus an SCART-to-RGB21 adapter to connect my American SNES to an XRGB3 and get crazy picture quality.

    LukeLexeme -

Not even all half descent Gamecube games are support to 480P mode. Plus need to check If Gamecube has Digital AV out too. Only earlier models have it.

Example: Resident evil 4 supports 480P output while Resident evil zero and Resident evil Remake only support to 480i output. (so Component cables are useless for games that don't have 480p output) Better off go for a RGB scart instead. RGB scart and component is not that exactly big step improvement to be honest. I used to have a official GameCube component before I sold it few years back.

Sadly, Price for this Component/VGA is a joke.

NTSC Gamecubes don't support RGB output through MultiAV, so you can't use RGB Scart cables... I am very satisfied with the picture quality of this VGA cable, because my Panasonic monitor supports both 15khz and 31khz so I can play in 480i or 480p. However the difference between Scart 480i and digital 480i is very little.

Also do not forget, that only PAL GameCube can output RGB.

True but you can mod it If they willing to, However S-video is a very good quality too, much much close as RGB. I use S-video cable and RGB scart on my Sony PVM monitor to play games.

Most Gamecube games support 480p. I believe Resident Evil does. For the ones that don't, a mod and Swiss will allow you to force the progressive mode on virtually any game. Of course, it's much easier to do that on a Wii, but it's possible with a Gamecube as well.

This is a pretty good price for a VGA/component cable, compared to what they're selling for elsewhere. I would buy it if I had the money, but unfortunately I'm broke at the moment.

Hahahaha, fam, if youre going to play your gamecube games on a CRT like they should be played, the difference is literally non existent.
If youre paying $130 (and an XRGB3), to play your gamecube games in 480p on a HDTV, i honestly feel bad for you bruh :(

    mah brother.

You speak wise words, everything you say is true.

Spoken like someone who hasn't played their GC in 480p on an HDTV.

K then. i can just say "Spoken like someone who hasn't played their gamecube on a Sony-PVM"...

Listen, i made a great point that you can really rebuttal; gamecube games simply look better on crt's.

Gamecube games arent HD, so why even think of playing them on a HD-TV if youre a videophile?

In the past, I'm experienced that Resident Evil Remake having a problem displaying on screen with green/ reddish flicker and Resident Evil Zero does not display at all apart from audio. Resident Evil 4 works just fine and other some games I have just works fine too.

Reality, Me playing Resident evil 4 on RGB scart cables and Component cables on my Sony PVM monitor, Quality display is not that much different (surprisingly) To be honest, not worth it and that why I sold the Component cables and also due to lack of use.

Now I have more Gamecube games that support 480P and I wouldn't bother buying Component or VGA cables again even though I do have the money. I'm very happy with RGB scart .

This is just my personal opinion.

Well I been there, So I know.

Yes you Right, Non HD console always suits the best with any CRT monitor.

I would agree that Gamecube games look better on a CRT, but I would also argue that they look better in 480p on a CRT than 480i. One option (my method) is to use a CRT computer monitor and a component to VGA transcoder. With the cable in the OP, you don't even need a transcoder. There's a pretty noticeable difference between 480p and 480i on a CRT. Also, some PVMs will accept 480p (as well as 720p and 1080i) over component.

I have 35 NTSC GC games, and they all run in 480p on my Wii. As I said, most of the worthwhile games (in the US market, at least) already support 480p - the ones that need to be forced are pretty sparse.

You don't necessarily need 480p to enjoy component. My only experience with GC Component was with a monster 32" FD Trinitron CRT (SD 480i). No progressive scan, but it still added a significant amount of detail and clarity to the picture that was easy to miss with composite. I started playing Twilight Princess with composite, switched to component a little into the game, and was pretty amazed by the difference it made.

Is the cable worth $180? That's enough to buy a cheap Wii with component cables, a Wavebird or 2, and a respectable handful of good GC games.

EDIT: In retrospect, these cables are expensive but they seem to be an investment. They used to go for as low as $50 4-5 years ago. They've basically tripled/quadrupled in price. The demand is there and people know it. It's annoying, but the longer you wait to buy the cable, the more money it will most likely cost. (Until someone steps up and clones that odd chip that GC Digital AV Out is reliant on at least)

The only reasons I can think of that I would personally care are if I wanted to play PSO on an online sever clone or if I wanted to play CGB or GBA games on a big screen without flicker.

All this fuss about detail and clarity, when in reality, when youre sitting a good metre and a half away from your tv the difference is literally unnoticable.
