It's subjective. It's why some people are content to play PS3 with composite cables and also why communities like AVS Forums exist. Some people are obsessed with purity, some could care less, and most are on the spectrum in between the two and generally biased more towards one side or the other (if a B&W UHF TV is on one side and something like a $10000 broadcasting monitor is on the other side).

That being said, my favorite TV is a little 13" Sears Roebuck CRT from the 70s with a B/W to Color push-button and high-fidelity monoraul. The UHF knob even goes up to Channel 84! Eventually 79-84 were removed from sets because you could pick up Analog Cell Phone conversations in-between Ch. 83 and 84. :)

I guess youre right; different strokes for different folks.

That being said, the difference between 1080p HDMI and 360/480i composite on a ps3 is phenomenal.. and the PS3 was really build for HDTV's!

I really love my SNES + GameCube SCART + SCART-to-RGB21 converter + XRGB-3 + DVI+sound-to-HDMI converter setup, despite how ridiculous the setup is. I can definitely see the difference between S-Video SNES and RGB SCART 240p SNES, but it's not much.

I can't stand a GameCube or SNES on composite video anymore, particularly modern televisions, but S-video is tolerable. I'd have to pay for one of those expensive cables if I wanted component on my GameCube or (by extension) Game Boy, since I have an NTSC system.

Do Wiis play GameCube games in 480p if you have the Wii connected with a component cable? The only modern reasons I have that would require an actual GameCube are to play Game Boy games or to play Phantasy Star Online online.

    As opposed to figuratively unnoticeable?

Market value is a bitch. $130 for a premodded cable is a good price.

Why? Because he upscales an SNES? The picture doesn't really get better, because you can't get the basic raw material better. But you have two advantages, when you are using a modern digital TV. First you are able to add scanlines. And believe me, they really do a great job in this resolution. Second you scale up to the native resolution of the TV. Which makes the picture more clear.

Alternatively, you can use a CRT, which does both of those without the complete mess of a "SNES + GameCube SCART + SCART-to-RGB21 converter + XRGB-3 + DVI+sound-to-HDMI converter"

Yeah, if you want to have to TVs at home and like flickering. I have a CRT, too, but only to use it for lightgun-games. Anything else I play on my LCD TV oder LCD projector. And then I use an upscaler and scanline generator, too.

Instead with a Sony PVM, you get a huge ugly box with a tiny display--yeah, that'll look great in my living room. And a PVM is way more of a "mess" to deal with than an XRGB and DVI converter that can be hidden away in a cabinet or behind a table.

Sorry, instead I'll be playing my consoles on a 51" plasma display that's mounted to my wall in my living room. And guess what, I can sit even farther than a "good metre and a half away" and still notice the difference when you have a display that size. ;)

But at any rate, beharius is selling a cable that fetches $180 on eBay easily, well over a decade after that console was introduced--that's the market speaking to you, buddy, and the market agrees that the cable is worth the money. And beharius is selling it for much lower than that, so deal with it.

Pvm isnt an ugly CRT, thats your opinion, and you dont buy it for the aesthetics do you? -And who says i'd have it in my living room? weird assumption, generally weakens your argument.

PVM isnt a mess either simple scart to BNC cables. very easy, very simple, very easy to switch scarts for ps1 to snes for example.

"51" plasma display" gross, what kind of filthy casual are you. That entire paragraph reeked of casual snobbery.

and did you write your third paragraph with your fedora on? im not your buddy, and i already "dealt with it"... I understand supply and demand, its market value. I was mainly having a discussion with other users about the quality of cables; trust an autistic brony to come along and act all sassy. go away.

As someone who does own a sony pvm CRT. They can be nice and all, however, they too have their own issues. For a lot of the modern cats it is definitely on the heavy side, and you have to add in some extra things in order to get the best quality on a sony pvm. You also have to remember that a lot of these models of Sony PVMs and BVMs also fetch for some money(range from 80-$350 depending on model and size of screen.), while they are good quality monitors...its almost the same price for a HD tv that is lighter on the back. If you want sound you have to buy speakers with the red and black cables and connect it in there. I had to have a d25pin cable in to a scart out to use on my scart box. That way I can get sound out of the tv with my scart box. Then you have to take into consideration that these tvs are definitely old, and sometimes the picture isn't exactly in the middle, and require that you open it up(or get it professionally done) to center and prepare an aged CRT tv. Also the XRGB scalers while expensive, they really work too. They produce the correct colors, scanlines, for your consoles of the golden era. You are paying top dollar for top notch quality.
