Does anyone know if there's a difference between these 2 cable sets?

I used to have the first set of cables and sold them along with my Xbox. The one on top is rather hard to find, but the boxed version pops up here and there on eBay.

If there's a thread already discussing this, please post the link.

I was curious to see which cable was better. As far as I've heard, people claim that the only way to get high resolutions on your Xbox is through component only.

Will the SCART cables output in 480p, 720p and 1080i? Also, is there a difference between the official SCART cables vs. the cables that Retro Gaming Cables sell?

Both made by Microsoft, both have optical audio connections, one has female and the other has male connectors and is longer in length.

Scart doesn't officially do 480p+ as a standard. So the Xbox doesn't either. Component is the way to go on the Xbox.

I have the cable version and absolutely love them. Supposedly they are the best cables for the original Xbox according to an Xbox expert I talked to. The cable is quite long, thick, and extremely well built (much like the official Nintendo GC Component cables). One advantage the HD AV Pack has over the component cables is that if for whatever reason you needed more than 9 feet, you could use long RCA cables without RCA couplers.

The cable is quite rare and expensive (not as much as a GC component cable though). If you don't want to spend the money on one, you could get high quality RCA cables and the HD AV Pack for cheaper.

I've got the above component box but have not had a chance to try it out. I was just wondering if the PAL Xbox compatible with it and does the pal Xbox output a component signal? Thanks

You will have to do a software mod to get 480p+ on PAL Xboxes. Hardware is fine.

Threads merged. As questions both regarding cables, just ask all questions in one thread please.

The v2 of the component cables are much better than the v1, since the connections can actually be tightened. Since most TVs now have connections battling gravity for some reason. I sold a set of v2 cables lately.

Hey thanks for merging the threads. Can you please specify which sets are V1 and V2? I want to say the box was version 1, but just want to make sure.

May I ask how much you sold the V2 pair of cables? If not, can you give me a ballpark figure? I ask so I don't overpay for them.

The box is V1. It's honestly crap. The cable used between the video connector and the box is lousy quality. Get the V2 if you can. I have the monster brand component cables and they are pretty good.

You can get 480p VGA sync-on-green with a BIOS mod. This will switch the YPbPr output to RG(s)B. Plug into RGB BNC connectors on a Sony CRT for easy results. Otherwise look up one of the many Xbox VGA guides to build a sync-stripper circuit.

    Yeah, V1 box V2 cables.

I think I sold them for AU$60. If you want to get the V1 of the component setup, get them from Japan. They're a lot cheaper I found... Well that was 2 years ago I was collecting all this stuff - Xbox stuff have gone up in value in the past year. Many systems and accessories pretty much sold for double.

V2 are a lot nicer though, cable is very thick, thicker than HDMI. So if you have an entertainment unit you might have trouble feeding the cable through. I had to widen the holes at the back of mine :p

Ever since posting this thread, I've been wanting to get another one again. A few years ago, I had sold my original xbox to my local video game store along with a few games. Since these are getting rarer to find nowadays, I decided to search on eBay. Turns out they didn't have any. The V1 are on eBay, but many of you are saying the quality of cable is much better on the V2. While I had the V2's way back when I sold these to my local store, what would be the chances they still had a pair?

I go to that store and I tell the owner that if he had a set of component cables for the original xbox, I would buy it the xbox right now. He told me to look through a bin of official cables they sell when a customer buys a console. I look all around the bin and notice all they way down in the bottom, those thick component V2 cables sticking out. I bought the console for about $80.00 and the component cables came with them for free. I'm glad my gut told me to go back and check that store again!

At one time I had both the box and the cables. I personally felt the video looked better with the box, so I kept it and sold the cables. As mentioned the SCART is pointless because it won't do 480p.

If I were to use an NA Original Xbox, can you force Enigmah to show at least 480p through the SCART cables? If so, would the signal be interpreted as Sync-on-Green (RGsB) or Y/Pb/Pr?

The reason I ask is because I have an OSSC and I can use progressive scan with my PS2 through SCART, and was wondering if I can do the same with the original xbox.

Not sure what cables you have to work with, but the OSSC does accept YPbPr through the scart connector. So you could build a custom cable.
