could you not leave out the dvd drive completely and just boot from the hdd, you will have ethernet and usb for adding new stuff to the drive easily

If all current firmwares are not able to be used, you'll have to make your own :( OR. Make one external.

Being Samsung though, there will most likely be a 2.5" counterpart and firmware being the same or similar, just my hunch though. I'm probably wrong.

I'm still slowly working on it :)

    Build update (mini):

Switched unit to output component video
    extended Dvd power header
acquired a PATA 2.5" hdd off a gypsy
started designing custom RGB xbox jewel for housing
    extended front panel Header

still trying to find a display, I could use my shop display but it uses cfl and I would need to buy a separate inverter if I am to run the display off the internal psu, plus it pulls too much current..

thinking of getting some acrylic laser cut to make a transparent mid housing (if I go with a flight case)

a flight case should have enough room to fit a Ethernet hub or even a 3G router(probs better for a 360 laptop)..

looking into water proof (sealable) external IO, IEC, USB, Multiout ect..

i dont have a lot of money ATM so things have slowed down a little..
