having downloaded the 360 demo and bought the PS3 version, I m torn on how to play the game. Playing it on XBOX with the controller is awesome, especially when you're doing something like being on the phone with a client. On the other hand.. I quite enjoy the arcade feeling of a wheel - the downside being that I *think* the 360 version is somehow technically superior, especially with regard to AA. Can someone do a valid comparison or point to a link? PS: the game is a bit thin on features. Reminds me of GTi Club+ but with Ferraris.
No offence to you, as this is not directly targeted at you, but I am getting sick and tired of all the Sega bashing of late on this forum. Not everything they put out is shit. I see no reason why Sega couldn't create a new Daytona-esque racing game. Or they could employ Sumo to do it for them perhaps. Those guys rule. :love2:
I know I bash current Sega a lot, but it's basically because I love the old Sega so much and it annoys me to to see Sega put no effort to many of its releases nowadays. Still, a handful of games have been as good and polished as Sega used to make 'em as late as the DC era, and OutRun 2 is one of them. I agree that Sumo would do a good job, most of their ports and games have been good (the exception being Sega Superstar Tennis, that was a real black mark on their CV). Of course, I think AM2 would make an even better Daytona sequel, IMO they're probably the only Sega studio who have produced consistenly great games since the death of the DC. My main consern with a Daytona sequel was really Sega farming it out to a less capable studio to try to make a quick buck (like what happened with Nights).
Actually, what are some good current gen Sega made games? I like Virtua Fighter 5...what else is there? Sega has at least published some good stuff. I'm glad they grabbed The Conduit.
I like Virtua Tennis 3 and the new Sega Rally's not too bad. If the Wii counts as current-gen  there's HOTD Overkill (and a few ports).
In my opinion, Sumo's driving titles are of such a high quality they forced the closure of Sega's own racing studio. I know there are fans, but can you imagine how much better Sega Rally 3 would have been if Sumo Digital had been responsible for its development instead? On the other hand, apart from the licensing issues I'd still rather a theoretical new Daytona USA or Scud Race update came from AM2 since its overall track record (no pun intended) is still higher... even though it's becoming a closer call with every release!
I'm still waiting for a next-gen Daytona (with the original arcade Daytona as a hidden feature), a port of After Burner Climax, a new and fun arcade racer (not that SegaRaceTV shit), a new Virtua Cop, ... What about a new Crazy Taxi? A new offroad racer like Dirt Devils? A new Dolphin Blue (Sega/Sammy) ? Damn i miss Sega from the 90's! I don't understand why no PS3/360 ports of After Burner Climax (it has been 3 years after it's release!) or Initial D for US/Europe.
That would indeed be totally awesome. I'd like Sega to prove they still have what it takes by releasing a truly spectacular sequel to Skies of Arcadia.
As mentioned, House of the Dead: Overkill is pretty fun. Though their true "current gen" gem is Valkyria Chronicles; it's a very awesome game. The previous two Yakuza games were really good as well, though I haven't played the third as of yet.
update: so far I love OutRun, really glad I spent the money on it. I m also not big on online gaming, mostly because there are players who are too good for my level, but I think I do have *some* skill in this one, so I fired up multiplayer. I was leading the pack until I got into the first intersection..then all hell (if hell was blue) broke loose! every single time I play with someone the bug kicks in and everything disappears, leaving me grinding against invisible walls, with only the cones visible in the distance. Suffice to say it's unplayable in this form, but I know not how to deal with this. I have the PS3 version, but I m aware that the same issue persists in the 360 version sometimes (although it seems to be the rule rather than the exception in my case). Any advice/solution/ideas, or at least a causal root?
I don't really like the multiplayer that much, primarily because IMO racing just doesn't suit OutRun. OR is really more about cruising against the clock than racing.
This problem? http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9176/imagen001dpr.jpg Same issue on original xbox and ps2 too (in online modes).
even worse - at least some of the road is visible in those screens - I m talking about a complete lack of visuals, just the blue stuff. Regarding OR online..well, I wouldn't mind trying to get them trophies
sorry for rising this zombie from the otherside, but I have a question! I own the game on the PS3 (but play it on an EDTV 480p) and I ve downloaded the trial version on my 360. For some reason the 360 version seems to move faster, have anti-aliasing, some added effects, and overall being smoother than its PS3 counterpart. I was wondering if this is really the case or it's just the fact that I m using a different set, as my 360 is hooked up to my PC's lcd 1680x1050 monitor.
