Yeah I'm looking forwards to purchasing one in the future as soon as theres enough to meet the demands, I've never bothered with Android gaming as much with my phone and I think this is easily one of the best ways to experience it ( from what I know ), really looking forwards to the emulation, I honestly don't want to fork out a stack of money getting Everdrives for my consoles or playing games off my PC.

I seriously don't get what everyone is shitting their pants about.

It's an android based console, most of the games on it are on the Google Play store. Some of the games are obviously straight android phone games because they have touchscreen controls on the screen and a keyboard prompt on the screen also.

I mean, seriously? My phone and my tablet both have HDMI out, I hooked it up to my TV one day and synced my PS3 controller to it.

What is different about the Ouya? Seriously, tell me. PR BS and hype aside.

Why should I care for this thing? Especially if I don't care to play mobile phone games on my TV.

Don't say emulators because the Retron 5 is coming out, will take cartridges and original controllers.

Like I said in another Ouya thread, it seems like since for a few years now we've been trying to get console quality gaming on mobile devices to little avail they are capitalizing on the opposite. Apparently everyone wants to play mobile phone quality games at home on a couch in front of their TV.

And I have a problem with some backers STILL not getting their unit...

I'm still seeing tons of backers complaining about the fact that they still didn't get a console while ouya is pushing units to retail

I'm not trying to get on your bad side or anything but just because it is a mainstream source, doesn't mean that the information in said source is going to hold up. I feel like the most valuable source for anything when it comes to gaming is to try it for yourself whether it would be playing it at a friend's house or on an in-store demo unit and then formulate the opinion of whether it is good or bad for yourself.

Honestly, I never understood the appeal of the OUYA. It does look interesting and it is a viable option for the less fortunate who don't have strong computers to emulate their favorite games; however, I won't be buying one. I know that Android is a "well-designed" OS (Well-designed being subjective if you solely look at the OS as opposed to the slew of Android based phones that run the OS); however, I wouldn't want to be bogged down with the Play Store since it is just like Apple's App Store and they can willingly remove whatever they damn well please in the long run. The OUYA might claim to allow emulation one moment; however, if that shady area of emulation comes up on the Play Store and enough is done about it, you can guarantee that emulators will be removed whether it's a cease and desist or what have you. Not only that but I'd rather just use emulation on my computer because I have the cables to hook my computer up to my TV and it would have about as much functionality as the OUYA if not more in the long run. Sure, you still have to worry about cease and desist letters for emulation developers which could turn ugly in the long haul; however, I don't have to worry about it being removed from an app store or losing its functionality entirely. I don't hate the OUYA per se, however in light of the recent news of backers not receiving their systems while retail chains are, I wouldn't want to have one. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice portable device with potential; however, I wouldn't want to own one because my computer is more powerful and I'm not as limited.

It was well overhyped about it's capabilities, great that it's getting kids doing programming and all but other than that it's pretty much junk. USB support is 'crap' at best, it won't detect a plugged in IBM USB keyboard unless you unplug it and plug it back in again, absolutely no support for USB cameras at all and it'll kernel panic if you try sharing USB devices over the network. Not to mention if you use a USB storage device, after being on for 10 hours or so it will just freeze due to a problem with the USB network port.
The whole thing really is a great example of how not to do embedded computing in all honesty.

And look what happened when the bitcoin was discovered by lifehacker. It has potential to blow up, but I think its a fad that will (sorta hopefully) die off. I just don't see andriod gaming as being anything worthwhile.

I think you all, in all your thinkness fail to see my point was, that it was making news in Mainstream outlets not just gaming media.

It's honestly disappointing me so far.

I struggle to even turn it on anymore, because what am I gunna do, play some shitty mobile game for 10 minutes, get frustrated trying to side-load normal apps that just won't work, and battle the ever unstable browser?

No, it needs a serious update and some better games FAST.

The irony. Steambox is pointless. Hook an HDMI cable to your PC, sync a 360 controller. run steam in Big picture mode. DONE. literally that's all it is...

emulators are legal, plain and simple. Nothing can stop them and google (and apple) allow them on the stores.

Given the fact that Chrome based Laptop fell flat on their face... and people already weary of Google and privacy......no console they will release will do anything.
