I have been going over my collection and the realization that the controllers and numerous accessories I have
around in my collection are never going to be worth anything.

So now I am torn, I have all these new in box controllers mostly ex-dev stock.

But I don't see myself moving them around with me for 30 more years until they become somewhat relevant.

I don't know if any of the so-called video game museums will really be viable and around by then.

So what does one do with new, mint but otherwise STATIC value items?

The items are things like every genesis, psone, saturn controller new in box.
Yes they might be worth $15 each to $30 but I am not going to bust my
ass selling and packing 150 boxes to make $650

So idea is No.1 donate to a museum, past that I am out of ideas.

    Lot sales on FleaBay?

Can charge a buttload for the shipping and a buttload for the lot as well.

Will a museum want them? They're just vanilla items in the original packaging, not to mention would they want multiple of them?

Way i see it is is this. Keep one of each for preservation, and put a side a weekend to list them on eBay at $10+shipping a piece, surely you make profit this way and free up space for real collectors pieces.

Or put out an APB here about this and see if theres any ebay resellers around these parts, cut a deal with them for the entire lot in one big bulk sale.

Lot of work and I'd be lucky to make $100.

I just throw them in the e-waste now. Sad but true.

    Any PC Engine controller there?

A godsend to many if there's replacement N64 analog sticks.

I would say fish a few out and toss them up here and maybe a few on the FleaBay. It would be a crime to waste ALL of them.

I guess most people here would gladly pay some money for those stuff. Even if takes time to catalogue everything you want to get rid of, it would be better than just dumping them. If it's lots of controllers, why not just making something like packs of 5 or 10 minimun?

Thinking about it, it could be a way to raise some money to help keeping the site running.

And this is why daddy drinks.

I recently did some organizing. I had 18 PS2 network adapters squirreled away from Gamestops, a ton of Dreamcast controllers, and 15+ dukes. At some point they'll be sold off as throwing them away is just unacceptable, unless the controller has been destroyed beyond all usability.

Why not offer a bulk unload to someone? Better than letting it go to waste.

i would say try a bulk rate cash on collection sale if its only going to e-waste. but in the end sometimes you need to say its just too much of a millstone and get shot of it.

I try to stay compact in terms of hardware. Once I get another version of the same console, the other version goes bye-bye. sold off.

Why not just sell them all at once or in a few large chunks for significantly less than they're worth? It'd be better than just throwing them away. You'd get some money, and it wouldn't be such a waste. Donating to a museum is a good idea, but what would a museum do with all that?

Don't know. It requires a lot of space, and a certain person to keep them, well, forever.

I am sure in 100 years it will be nice for someone but storing it is another thing.

If I had a cheap place to keep it, like a storage cave (those exist), I would box it all up
in a wooden crate and paint "2113" on the side and let it go.

I must have 300-400 controllers of all kinds.

I wonder what would happen to plastic over the course of 100 years.

If it has softeners of any kind, it will leech and become good or dry out. So the cord and start/ select might become gummy on cheap controllers.

No sunlight it will be fine, old bakelite and other early plastics do just fine.
Even if it has fire retardants, if it is kept in the dark it should be fine.
