Sure Wikipedia isn't much of a source here. Just goes to show that, like much of the English-speaking Internet, I've never heard of a single PS1 game outside North America having known issues when ran on PS2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_games_incompatible_with_PlayStation_2 So... Is there anything interesting? (naturally I'm not counting modified or hacked systems and games. unnecessary can of worms) Affected PAL title list: Final Fantasy V (Final Fantasy Anthology): save screen graphics corruption Metal Gear Solid Special Missions: disc swap check fails on certain models Wipeout 2097: original release crashes when starting races
I remember hearing about problems running Metal Gear Solid : Special/VR Missions, Not sure if it was with the PS2 or PS3 though
Something like that, I'd forgotten about it. Pretty sure it's a PAL-specific issue. The NTSC versions don't involve disc swapping.
I know the Gradius Deluxe Pack has issues with the PS2, Gradius runs fine but Gradius II runs ungodly slow on the PS2.
Does this mean can we definitively say Metal Gear Solid: Special Missions is the only PAL region PS1 game with any shape or form of compatibility issue on a PAL PlayStation 2?
No, there were others that had problems. The original release of Wipeout 2097 crashed just after you started a race, although there was a corrected version that worked. One of the discs in the Final Fantasy Anthology had glitches - I think the save screen was corrupted, although it still worked. I'm pretty sure there were others, too.
Those glitches are in the American release of Final Fantasy V. The Japanese list doesn't mention it, but I have no idea about PAL copies.
Those two were also in the PAL releases - not sure about the others. This was on one of the early PS2s (SCPH-30002, I think).
