Is there a way to modify the region of my Q? I have a Japanese model but in some retail shops such as lik-sang, they've been selling NTSC unlocked models in addition of being region-free for movies.
the Q can be made multi-region for its NTSC GameCube portion, by creating a switch on the r6 circuit, just as standard NTSC cubes - it wont play PAL games of course. regarding DVD movies, i have no clue, probably voodoo.
As far as I know and my pet penguin can confirm, modchips do not work as they should on Panasonic Q units.
Yea, I could have sworn there was as well, and it was advantageous for a Q since they can fit a full DVD in there without modification....
German shop Wolfsoft is offering the NTSC region + DVD mod and they state that they would also modify it to play PAL games (=some modchip, isn't it?) for extra money. The price is ridiculous imo but at least it means that it is possible.
modchips like qoob make the GC region-free indeed. I m curious however to what extent this is possible on the Q. I d be very delighted if it is possible indeed.
Both ViperGC/Cobra and Qoob should be easy to install in a Q, and they should support PAL games fine To mod the DVD motherboard in a Q to support PAL movies, an additional RAM chip needs to be installed, as well as DVD modchip. CF
You sure? I thought Japan uses NTSC just like US... Since when Japan changed to PAL coz that will be a great news seeing we also use PAL over here...
Japan is indeed NTSC, we all know this...he's saying that Japan is in the same DVD Region as Europe, Region 2. Us & Canada is Region 1.
You sound very sure about this and have a Q, so I suppose you have testet R2 PAL playback, but let me ask you again to be sure: Are you saying that your Q plays R2 PAL movies out of the box? If so, that is news to me, and a photo of the DVD-motherboard would be highly appreciated. The reason why you (normally) need to solder in an extra RAM chip when you mod it, is that out the box, the Q (normally) does not have enough video RAM to playback PAL movies. Maybe there are revision I have not seen. To unlock the Q to be just NTSC region free, and macrovision free, you can simply use the Panasonic RV31 unlock disc. It will however not play R2 PAL movies without the extra RAM (normally). CF
An orginal panasonic Q don't play Pal dvd , that why it need the pal Ram to work , however i don't know if only pal ram make pal r2 working on the Q , normaly yes but all modification with pal ram have the region free. For have region free NTSC the panasonic service disc 2 is needed ( some isos of it are available on p2p) .
Hello here friends! From yesterday, i'm in possesion of a brand new Panny Q, bought for only 50E from a guy who didn't know much about it ... A Panasonic Q can play DVDs from ALL regions if you have a Pansonic Service Disk 2 that can unlock it. Since the Q is a mix of a Pansonic DVD Player, namely the Panasonic RV31, and a Nintendo GameCube, the DVD side of it can be hacked as a normal Panasonic DVD Player. For the Cube side, i've heard that the Qoob is compatible with the Q. Hope this clears some questions. P.S: If someone has a Panasonic RV31 Service Disc 2, please share it with us!
Deja vu: You sound very sure about this and have a Q. I would like to have it confirmed that a Q (unlocked or not) can play PAL DVD movies without extra RAM added. Are you saying that it does? If so, that is news to me, and a photo of the DVD-motherboard would be highly appreciated. The reason why you (normally) need to solder in an extra RAM chip when you mod it, is that out of the box, the Q (normally) does not have enough video RAM to playback PAL movies. Maybe there are some revisions I have not seen. I think that the RV31 have this memory installed by default, the Q however (normally) don't. CF
I can confirm that i have installed the qoob in my q and worked fine but i think i had to upgrade the modchips firmware, and i have installed a switch to change the region and language but i dont recall anything about movies. Its definitely one of the hardest consoles to dismantle but its beautiful...
The XenoGC should work too, the solderpads are in a different place with the Q, but they are there. Maybe you need to use small wires instead of soldering the chip directly onto the pads, but according to every picture of a Q board I´ve seen so far I have no reason to doubt that it will work. Doesn´t fix anything DVD playback related though.
