Hi guys! How Are you all doing? :)

Im new here (and i hope i dont come across as a noob here) and i don't know if this is the right place to post this but recently i managed to acquirt two fantastic Panasonic GameCubes.

My problem is that one of them does not even power on, there is no red light either and im sure i am doing everything correct as the other one powers on fine (though it has tray problems which is for another time) and i am using a step down transformer since i am from tbe UK.

I really dont know where to go from here, I've opened it up and inspected it but couldn't really find anything wrong. I was really wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar or know what could be the problem? I really would like to get this working! It would mean alot!

I look forward hearing from you wonderful people! :D

Check the bottom most motherboard of the system, I had a friend 6 or 7 years ago with a similar issue and it turns out the last board on the bottom. This board has holes where the plastic screw pegs that secure the top to bottom, stupidly they have traces going behind the and around the pegs and 2 were broken so obviously so were the traces. Also check the fuse where the power plug goes into.

Hi Helder, thanks for the reply, however I am not uite understanding or clear what you're saying, "most motherboard"..."traces"?

There are plenty of board pieces in the machine when I opened it, alot of them are screwed very awkwardly. Perhaps you could probably identify which board exactly?

Or anyone else like to chime in by any chance? Feel free of course! :D

He said the bottom most motherboard. How is that not identifying exactly which board? It's the bottom most one! Hardly surprising, considering that's where the power input is.

If you don't know what traces are, I'd say don't go any further - have someone take a look who knows what they're doing, or you risk damaging the system.

Firstly, though, are you sure the step-down transformer is man enough? After that, it would be standard fault-finding - check the output of the power board first. I wouldn't recommend probing a 100V board if you don't know what you're doing, though!

Doesn't the panny q only draw about 50w? Don't think I've ever seen a stepdown lower than 100w

Sorry for the late reply guys!

It is definitely man enough, as I stated in my OP, I have two Panasonic Qs and I powered them both with hte same step-down transformer, and the 'working one' indeed powers on!

The Panasonic Q only draws about 30W and 100V.

    Do you have a multimeter?
    Your powersupply could be shot

Take it to someone who knows what they're doing, like a TV repair man.

    Photos are unlikely to help.

There aren't many of those around unfortunately in my area, and plus if I am honestly speaking purchasing these left me very little in the piggy bank thus I wouldn't be able to pay someone for their services (I assume already they would charge more than they used to back in the day, I know this because a couple years back I got in-touch with someone to have a look/service at my slightly malfunctioning my Panasonic NV-HS1000 VCR and while he did a very good job what I had to pay was abit beyong than what I imagined but didn't complain at the time)..

What would it be on the power board you would be looking out for?

Check the output voltage of the PSU
basically you are looming for anything suspicious like burnt components ect.

also check the main fuse on the psu if you are getting no power on the low side.

Where the psu connects to the motherboard, there should be some sort of protection there too such as fuses check them with a multimeter. If the psu is outputting the correct voltage

Hey guys, how are you all doing?

I finally took the time out to disassemble the Panasonic GameCube much more further in to inspect the boards properly.

I was worried that I would not be able to identify any problems on what could be causing for it not to power up, even fearing that the difficulty in taking all the parts apart would've caused more damage than what would initially existed. And then I came across this:

That is the same problem I described above. You see the traces on the outer edge of that square hole and the obvious cracks? Simply trace where the traces go and solder some wires to make a connection where the broken traces would go.

What would be some recommended wires perhaps?

Any standard wires like 26awg is fine, if you reinforce the board and glue it in the back you could scrape the traces and put a bead of solder across the crack. Wires are a safer bet but you atleast have options.

Ok Could you take some hi res pic with some better lighting and close up of the board and I will draw you a guide of where to solder what.

I hope you saved or looked at that image I uploaded with the points since I didn't save it and if there is no backup of it on the server it's long gone.
