Is there a way to some how convert PAR codes so they can be used on the EverDrive? I want to enter 0000A1C0:79B6 for Street Fighter 2 - The New Challengers so I can access the Test Mode but can't get it to work, it freezes on ROM patching... 1..
If you use a Mega Everdrive it can take PAR codes as is. For the Everdrive MD, use a PAR to GG converter program. (Pro Action Replay to Game Genie) Make sure the menu has an area for entering cheats. If not, see if updating to the latest OS will add that function. Otherwise you're SOL because physical Game Genie won't work with it. I tried once to see. Not sure on PAR but I'm sure it would be the same.
If you use Linux there is a program that allows Windows programs to be run. It's called Wine. I also just found out it works on Mac OSX too. With the small nature of the windows program, there should be no problem running it in wine since there is no installation. It's a standalone program. EDIT: Figured out you run Linux just now. Always thought the name was "Inx". Realized now it's "lnx". "linux" without vowels. Use Wine to get the converter program to work. I'm pretty damned sure it will go. Or else someone else can do it for ya. Like me perhaps. I run Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. ;D
^ That works too if you know what you're doing. I for one wouldn't and being a Windows user I'll go the lazy route if I ever have to.
Well, once I found out that PAR codes are stupid simple, I learned there's nothing to it. Basically, for the code 0000A1C0:79B6, A1C0 is the address in the ROM I need to go to, and 79B6 are simply the values that need to be changed. I think PAR support could be put in the Everdrive, just to make it easier. It's definitely less cryptic than a game genie.
^ The Mega Everdrive has it by default. I think I know what my personal present for birthday/ Christmas will be. As for the codes, I understand how they work. I also know that a Game Genie is 8 characters long. The letters and numbers entered are the actual code as represented in Hex. Hex is a simple way of denoting a group of 4 binary numbers. So each Game Genie code changes a string of coding that is 32 bits long. First 4 are address and last for are the "action" I think. (I'm most likely wrong on that...) PAR works much that same way like was said in post above. Memorizing the addresses and item location values would take too much time for me to bother with...
The PAR codes are RAM codes and therefore are not compatible with a REAL GG and converting it will only produce a non working GG code. That code you posted is really a ROM code or a Game Genie code unencrypted, you could patch the rom with the ROM or Game Genie codes using THIS program but its for windows only. If you PM me the exact rom name I can make an IPS patch that you can apply with any IPS patch program which I'm sure the Mac has one.
