Ha! Just wait until this sort of thing happens to you on a regular basis. You know you are old when you walk into your bank to discuss your account with your new branch manager and he is about the same age as your kids. I don't care if he knows what he is doing, It should be an unwritten rule that bank managers must be older than their customers (purely from a psychological point-of-view). A bit of a pisser for those over 80 however. ;-)

Kurt Cobain RIP man - all those years ago and it seems like yesterday - I just hope it's a better place for you mate. That guy gave me a fine backing track to my teenage years.

It was in the late 80's definetly. I was born in '88, so I dunno. I'll have to find out. Her friend also had a demo tape of them, her and her friends were into the whole music thing back then, being why shes seen so many bands like them. Her favorite band is Tool, and she also saw them before Opiate was out. Pretty cool.

    Seen Live:

The Jesus & Mary Chain ( Fcuking awesome feedback, I managed to get right up to the stage next to the speakers! Also bumped into Bobby from Primal Scream at the concert, who was the original ex-mary chain drummer :)

    Dinosaur Jr (great performance)

My Bloody Valentine (gone but not forgotten)

Blur (Early concert, before they broke through into the big time...you could tell they was gonna be big from just from this performance)

The Stranglers (Original line up with Hugh on vocals)

The House Of Love (the loudest song I've ever heard was the legendary 'Shine on' performed at the leas cliff hall in Folkestone with these guys, they damn near caved the building in when they cranked up the bass to ear bleeding levels!)

Shakespear Sister (hey, I admire Ms Fahey, wot more can I say)

Hey OE a fellow Jesus & Mary Chain fan ;-) (as discussed)

I still have the very first Blur single kicking around "There's no other way" when they appeared on ToTP live from Paris. It all happened so suddenly for them that they didn't even have a video. Something that Blur made sure would never happen again. Shitty feed, but simply amazing performance. I agree, they seemed professional and have proved their worth time and time again.

Travis hand painted a single on vinyl and it was immediately withdrawn the week they signed to a major label and hit the charts. Each single was numbered and as I say, hand painted by the band members. I bought the single and had to argue with our radio station to play it. They all said "they are shit". I'm sure a pile of people would agree, but like Blur I just had that feeling that this was a group with something different about them. I have no idea how many copies they sold, but it was on the shelf for no more than 2 days before it was pulled. A few hundred, maybe a few thousand.

Not got it any more as I gave it away to a close friend of mine on another radio station in England prior to the chart success saying "you must play this".

GP: I really envy you in a good way. My sister experienced them in Forum back in the SOFAD period, and now adays I still would have loved to be there. And damn you are lucky, that you have experienced In Your Room in SOFAD version live, since the Zephyr version sucks. And you have experienced Higher Love live ? wow I wish I have had experienced that. And you have also experienced Summer tour in 1994 ? damn.... the only thing I have from that period, is a great soundboard recording from San Fransisco, in the most clean version I have heard on flac, from the very famous concert. Where the bootleg is known as Rated PG By The Shoreline and others too.

But I DO have loads of 1993 SOFAD bootlegs.

    Home ground!

One of my older friends (a wonderful Canadian hippy) used to tell me tales of the bands she had heard. I would have given my wisdom teeth to have seen some of the bands. In particular she saw The Doors. I'd have swapped every one of my dev units for the opportunity to have been at a live Doors gig.

When I lived in Paris I was a stones throw from Le Pere Lachaise cemetery. Despite being so close to it I visited just before I left the city (you do all the things you want to do in cram at the end), but James Morrisson's bust had been removed! Bloody typical! A sign read "removed for cleaning" and a cemetery worker went MENTAL when I tried to take 1 photo to mark the moment. Daft twat!

Honestly, the SOFAD tour was absolutely nothing compared to Violator. I guess that's to be expected considering what a stellar album Violator was, and of course that Violator was my first real concert at the age of 15. For SOFAD The first time around Alan was still with the band which was nice. The second time around on the tour he was gone, but it was actually a better show (It was at an outdoor venue in the summer, and Martin played Somebody).

Weird little story. My first year of University was at a place called Abilene Christian University. It has some 6000 students, and is in a small city in the middle of Texas, population about 100,000. In my dorm my freshman year, I learn some people have backstage passes to just about every DM show in the region. I later find out why -- Martin's brother-in-law lives a floor above me. Thought it was bullshit until I went into his room and saw all the back stage passes from previous tours and of course polaroids on the wall. I believe he (and his sister presumably) were from Seattle.

Glastonbury festival, though I don't recommend it. Reading/Leeds tends to be better.
