Well, what I meant was that hopefully someone did make a private backup, as we all know no one likes to see a game get completely wiped out. I guess it is kind of a slim chance at this point. Sometimes I forget that CD burners were impractical and expensive at that point in time.
I completly understand if nothing can be said, but I would almost kill for some info on any copies of deus ex that differ from the retail version. So please, please give us something(info, not asking for a copy to be shared) if you in fact have any info and are in a position where something could be shared.
I've been on fileplanet fora few years now and pretty much every month their is a semi-closed beta for subscribers on various games; most recently the Battlefield 2142 Beta
I think I have two betas of two different games. One is still under development and I hope I have it somewehre in my back-up DVDs. THe other is of a game that was later cancelled because the studio was bought out by Epic..
How is that game different from the Hired Guns i played for PC? It was some rpg-action-blabla like game. Looked like this: http://www.juegomania.org/Hired+Guns/fotos/pc/5/5281/Foto+Hired+Guns.jpg Unless that movie is just for a planned but never released CD version... But the game Hired Guns was out for PC.
Nice little demo you got there WindowsKiller, You hapen to know if it's the same as the one that was released on the web(I would assume so, if not it's news to me). Also I thought that N. America was the only place that got stuck with that horrible "trying too hard to be badass" box art. Apparently our German brothers had to suffer as well;-)
I ran a Trek gaming site many years ago and have some Interplay betas. Beta of StarFleet Command and some posters from them as well. It's a press CD with the beta, some screenshots of other Trek flops they were working on, etc.
Do you know how far work on First Contact and Secret of Vulcan Fury got? I would've really liked to play First Contact, but I can't say I was surprised when it was cancelled.
There was an english demo of IW released. It featured a small section of lower seattle(the area where one of your pilots helicopters is being held) that is slightly different from the retail release(the actual level/goals are the same, but certain items are present in the demo that are not in the final release). I don't know for sure but I think the demo was also released with german dialog(or maybe it was just german subs?). I doubt there are any differences between the online demo and the one you got, but you never know.
Yeah I dunno how far those games got. There wasn't a lot of info about them other than the pre-release shots and previews. I have a feeling that First Contact was really not turning out well (voxels and Unreal engine!??!). Some of the screenshots were not so bad, but some definitely were pretty bad looking. SoVF was probably just too far out and Interplay didn't have the money to really get the game done. They were dumping devs at the time, trying to cut costs. When Klingon Academy came out they dumped the whole dev staff (14 degrees East) almost immediately. They kept a few around to get the patch done tho. It seems that Interplay just way overextended itself with those Trek games and then the games flopped and took the company with them basically. The press CD I have has SFC, New Worlds, and some Klingon Academy stuff on it. The beta is SFC I believe. The CD has a "Web site" on it with pages for all the games. Each has info and screens. I got it around '99 I believe. Later on Interplay sent me review copies of New Worlds (lol!!) and Klingon Academy (good game). I have some snazzy KA posters around yet. It's like a movie poster on one side (Plummer and Warner in Klingon gear with Klingon ships and colors all around) and the other has ships and info all over it.
i have a few pc betas but they were mostly public 'mass' betas Act of War and FFXI are all i have pressed copies of, ones ive 'collected' as they poped up are doomIII, and HL2 nothing unique of special really
i remember playing a doom 1 alpha years and years ago where the monsters didnt move or wherent even in it at all gotta check if thats floating somewhere around
are there multiple versions of that doom 3 alpha that was floating around a few years ago? if i remeber correctly, the one version i have says something to the effect of "V0.02" when you pop down the console.
Aren't some of the pre-alpha/alpha builds of Doom 1 up on Doomworld, along with the rather awesome production/design notes ?
yes found that later theres a development diary or something in the kind of that including the various alphas that came out pretty cool from id to release that the design bibble/ dev diary was scrapped in the development of doom if i remember correctly from the masters of doom book
A few years ago, I was at a trade show, and they had a demo of STALKER running on a Shuttle. The member of staff looking after the stall had wandered off somewhere. The Shuttle had a Compact Flash reader in it. I had my camera on me, complete with Compact Flash card. I could soooo have copied the game - I even joked about it to my friend! Are we just talking betas? I know that a member has source code for a PC game, and probably betas and other stuff too!
I have a early build of stalker, and a ton of stuff from Half Life 2 - including the original stroy and levels. Of course this is all from torrents;-)
