PC game betas

Hello everyone! I am new here, but I have spent many months reading tons and tons of interesting things on all the consoles and games I love. This site is just what I was looking for. I am a huge fan of Betas, Alphas, and unreleased games and hardware. I cant get enough of it.

Anyway, I decided to post here because one of my favorite games for the PC is Half-life. I (Like many others) have gotten the HL2 Beta along with large amounts of code and maps.

So I always wondered, was there ever a leaked HL1 build? I have searched the web to see if people have ever discussed it and found a forum topic on it once. It showed people saying they have heard of it, and that some select people did own it. Then someone began yapping about an OEM demo shipped with hardware that contained some beta material.

This is called, "Half-life Day One". I managed to acquire a copy and did notice a lot of unused models and animations that didnt make the cut. This made me quite happy, however, I always wanted to see a true beta of the game.

So while searching, I stumbled upon many sites discussing it, and one of my favorites with tons of pictures and videos is -http://nostalgia.planethalflife.gamespy.com/

So here I am, pondering in the thought that a beta is actually in someones hands. I have long since lost the site that contained the thread of people discussing the beta. So..... Yeah...

Err that was with us. It was the lan demo or something. We were all crowding around and then the two guys come back... one security guard watching us and the other taping up the card readers on the shuttle... lol

 

I've got all of the blizzard friends and family betas with relevant nda/use paperwork since starcraft, along with world of warcraft alphas going back to before most races were available (they introduced new races in stages while incorporating more testers)

edit: aside from some obv diffs from the retail versions in files, theyre pretty worthless at this point unfortunately, i tried to install the closed d2 client and the game wouldn't run (probably a built in date check)

Well, at least we got as far as quitting the game and having a browse through the directory ;-) hahaha!

I believe that may have been how one of the releases was acquired!!
