That's really cool! How different is it? What's different?

 

This is the 'Retail Store Beta'. Type in, 'MRJONES' during the game and it will identify it as such. This build has some different item placement and unfinished sprites (Hammer of Retribution) etc. There is a map not seen in the retail called 'Maze'. Here are the cheat codes for this build:

MARTEK - God mode
ANGEL - No clipping mode
CONAN - All weapons
MCCOY - Full health
JANITOR - All keys
NOISE - Sound debug information
TICKER - FPS counter
GREEDY - 25 of each item
PUZZLER - All puzzle items
GATExx - Level warp
DELIVERANCE - Pig mode
CARNAGE - Kills all enemies
RAMBO - Removes all weapons
QUICKEN - Kills you if written thrice
ZELIGx - Change player class
MRJONES - Version information
WHERE - Coordinates
INIT - Restart level
REVEAL - Changes automap mode
WEWIN - Win the game

Sorry for adding to such an old threat, but none of the current links work anymore. I am trying really hard to get this beta, but I can't find it ANYWHERE. If anyone could provide a new link, yet again, it would be very, very much appreciated.

Thanks for the new link. However, it isn't downloading. BitTorrent says: "Seeds: 0 of 0 connected (0 in swarm)" and "Peers: 1 of 4 connected (2 in swarm)." It also says that there is 0.0 availability. I'm pretty new to BitTorrent, so I'm not sure if this is something I am doing wrong or not.

 

2 minutes of googling found this, leading here. Hope it's the correct one, didn't actually dl it (and don't have the original file to compare against, anyways).

Thank you for finding another link. The file specified appears to be the correct one. However, it will not download. It seems to begin downloading, but quickly changes to "Temporary error, retrying", a message which sits unchanging on the webpage. I'm sorry that this is becoming a pain. All the links I've tried either error, redirect me to spam, or send me something totally unrelated. I'm thinking this is because all the links are old and no longer function. I'm starting to come to the conclusion that the only way to obtain it would be for someone who already has it to make a new link. Thanks again.

Does this Require DosBox these days?..

Also, why didn't anyone ever crack the date protection?

 

Yeah, it needs DOSBox using modern PCs. The reason why the date protection wasn't cracked is probably because this beta only received a very limited release and there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest where it was released, ie here. Very few people from the Doom forums (since Hexen uses a modified Doom engine and shares several devs with id, it's part of every major Doom forum) know it exists and pretty much none of them have this beta. I'm sure if it was more available to them, one of the enthusiasts would have cracked it by now. Maybe I should make a thread there.
