So far, I was the proud owner of a microsoft intellimouse 3.0 (as seen niah) yet wear and tear over the past 5 years has worn the mouse out. Specifically, when i single click, many times it thinks its double-clicked, (despite the setting in control panel for fast/slow) and its plastic pads on the bottom have worn thin, and it sort of grinds against the surface nowadays. Alas, the laser still rocks, and although it's old I never encounted accuracy issues. Long live the mouse, its time for a new one. What are your suggestions? My criteria are: Something simple looking (I like the looks of the Mighty Mouse, but the lack of simultaneous right+left click turns me off, not to mention the squeeze buttons) Preferably wired, or if wireless, with a craddle ( i don't like manually changing batteries that much) "heavy and sturdy" NOT feeling cheap (sorry to offend, but most logitech mice feel cheap at my hand, and their fashion is not my taste, too flashy) Comfortable Scroll-wheel or better Also, I ve heard about a new technology, called Laser mice, in contrast with Optical, that has a thinner beam, suitable for even more surfaces. I m open to your wise suggestions, links and pictures. Thanks
I have 3 Micorsoft Optical Blues and I love EVERY one of them. They are very accurate and have 3 buttons. A normal right and left and then if you press in on the scroll wheal theres a 3rd and thats about all there is to it. Its wired and looks cool. I have used it for Counter Strike gaming for 3 years and am so in tune with it I cant use another mouse lol. anyway heres a link: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-K81-00004-Optical-Mouse-Blue/dp/B000068MP2 In that pic you cant see the back, but at the back bottem theres a oval shape thats got a star syymbol on it and its clear so its lit bright red when the mouse is on and its looks awsome. Oh and I got mine for about 25-30 apiece although you can find them cheaper now adays.
I don't really have any suggestions other than to get another Microsoft mouse. I used to have a standard Microsoft Optical mouse at my last job, and I loved it. I'm looking to buy another one to replace the Logitech I have right now, actually. The wireless Logitech I'm using wasn't really worth the $45, although the laser is nice; it doesn't "jump everywhere like cheap optical mice do. Laser mice seem to be pretty accurate, but no more than a nicer optical mouse would be, if that answers your question about them.
I really like my Saitek Gaming Mouse, it was just 20$ too and has 1600dpi switch. But my hands are wierd.
The new laser range of Logitech mice are very nice for gaming. I find wireless with cradle work excellently for FPSers also, it is "meaty" and sturdy and the tracking is about as accurate as they can get.
Living in uni halls, where there is absolutely tons of RF interference (about 5 wireless networks, and various other crap) Don't buy a mouse on 2.4GHz if you are in a similar situation. Mine was fine at home (where there was only my own network in range) but since coming to uni has been crap, batteries run down faster and tons of interference. It's a logitech MX610 - lovely mouse, just doesn't cope well with all the interference.
Do I hear any votes for Mighty Mouse? I ve read consumer reviews about it sucking at operational level to be honest, but that thing is sexy. To be honest, I m against wireless pads/keybs/mice, as professional equipment always comes wired, and I respect myself enought to not be mezmerized by "oh no wires jack!!11". PS: madhatter, did you check your e-mail? PS2: i went to logitech's website, and 100 USD for a mouse is more than its worth. I want to do my job, not to hover a space-shuttle under my palm.
Hmm, I've used both the Wireless Mighty Mouse and the Logitech MX1000, both great mouses(mice?) in my opinion. Some small impressions, pro's and cons: Mighty Mouse: I would definitely recommend getting the wireless one, seeing as that one is laser and the wired one is optical. I've switched to a wireless MM after about 3 weeks with my wired one, and I love it most of the time. Problem is that there is currently a little bug in Os x 10.4.8, which sometimes causes it to ''lose'' the right button function. You have power it on again for it to work. That kinda sucks a lot when gaming, as for the rest: it doesn't really matter. I expect this to be fixed soon though, so don't worry too much about that. As for the rest, the scrollball rocks and works very well and easy, the side buttons are nice and the mouse has a slick, somewhat small(compared to my MX1000) feeling. The best part is the fact that it is bluetooth, away with the cables(you say you don't mind, but once they're gone you wouldn't want it any other way..). Logitech MX1000: one of the best laser mouse available in my opinion: it feels great, has tons of buttons, comes with a dock for recharching and is, despite it looks, very light. It was my first laser mouse after I went from one with a ball, so the improvement was, to say the least, smashing. It has a great signal(I can play all my RTS and FPS games with it, no problem at all)good durability and also looks nice imo. Sidestory: mine broke after 2,5 years, I called Logitech and they told me I had a 3 year warranty on it so without any more hassle they send me a new one ^_^.
Does the Mighty Mouse only work on Mac? http://www.saitek.com/images/300dpi/mobile_solutions/PM12A Gaming Mouse_3.jpg Thats what I have. It's good and was 20$. The back and forward buttons are very handy.
Barc0de: if you're gonna use it on XP I think the wired MM is overpriced.. atleast get one from a Mac forum or Ebay for half of the price. 50 euro is too much for the quality you get. It does work well under XP, I always hook it up to my sister her laptop if I need to use it(Using XP Mac style ). But aren't there any programs around that let you use a wireless MM with XP? Pity if there aren't.
bullocks! i got outbid the last second for one fucking pound! 20 pounds it was the MM >< Besides my anger at the moment, all other MMs i found were overpriced! they hover about the 35 pound mark, which is about 70 dollars...too much, and that's not even BuyItNow
I'd stick with wired mice. The wireless you'll eventually get sick of using. I have. I used to have the higher MX series and one of the cheaper wireless mice. THe MX (which I forget the exact model) the batteries built in eventually wore off their charge very quickly, in a matter of days after 5months of use. The other logitech one I then used that used regular AA batteries I got sick of using for haivng to replacing the batteries over and over again. Waste of money, IMO. So I've gone back to wired and regretted not sticking with it.
Could do, but it might just be the mouse being slightly crappy. unfortunately its not normally something you can find out beforehand. It's not too bad, just sometimes you lose the connection, and the mouse goes jolting around the screen.
I don't know who still cares, but as a nice lad, I decided to post my final acquisition (and not purchase) impressions. I came by 4 different mice (In the sense that i own 4 mice and haven't paid a dime except for one that i got for 12 euros, whereas its identical bretherin are priced at about 40) and the verdict is as such: I have two wired, and two wireless mice in my posession. The wired are: Logitech MX 400 (in short, the winner, as it reminds me of the good ole' IntelliMouse that is depicted in the first post). It's also a Laser mouse. got it free Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 ( a very nice mouse, but the "neutral" position isn't my thing, i m a "righty" so I like the right handed curve, I gave this to my father, a very nice laser mouser. got it free Logitech gaming mouse, wireless using Blutooth (can't be arsed to look up model numbers) NOT RECOMMENDED, there's shitloads of lag and the damn thing is HEAVY. giving it away to a mate . got it for free Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 5000 - this is not a laser mouse, but an optical one. I m also keeping this one along with the LX 400 (it's nice for a wireless mouse, and the RF works better than BlueTooth. The scroll wheel does not have any clicking feedback, which is so-so, but it's for righties, and still reminds me alot of the IntelliMouse. I will be using this on periods of work-assignments, where i need space and can't be bothered with wires.) I paid 12 euros. Some idiot wrongly priced it as a Basic Optical mouse, so I took the chance that was presented (didn't swap any barcodes this time) and I m a happy man. All in all: the BEST of the four is the LX 400. While the wireless 5000 by MS is nice, and WORKS ON ONE BATTERY TO REDUCE WEIGHT (Which is nice), the LX's weight and responce are a tad better, as it's a wired mouse. And as we all know, wired stuff work better and faster. I will use the wired one for CAD and gaming. The wireless one is destined for office-time mode, where my desk is full of papers, books, and toys. I got the best of both worlds as far as I m concerned. Thanks for all the info guys
this might sound stupid, but i find all the mouses to be the same, sure.. some optical mouses sometimes jump from one side of the screen to another, but right now im using a 20buck white hp mouse that matches my macbook so nice and it works great for quake 3 arena and cs 1.6 hehehe, maybe i just need to try the more expensive mouses some day.
