I got my Turbo Everdrive in the post yesterday. Thanks! Small issues though. My rom dumps suck balls. So make sure whatever your source of games is for this thing is clean and working. It doesn't seem to recognise folders either, for some reason. Not sure why, maybe the contents were corrupt and so it didn't register them at all, I don't know. More experimenting and formatting ahead I fear! But thanks for a great product, it's smashing!
You can't dump every single game into one folder. There is a limit to the number of files before it stops listing them. I organized the set into US and JP roms and split JP into two folders, A to L and M to Z. I also separated the PD or other unlicensed/homebrew roms into a different folder too. I think once you get to around 160 files in a folder it seemed to stop listing ones after that. It might be related to the amount of memory he has to work with which isn't very much.
I think the limit is like 237 files or something like that. The US set is obviously smaller than this, and if you strip out all the sports games, games with US counterparts, and translated games you can get under that with the Japan set.
KRIKzz released an update today fixing a bug with SDHC cards. You can get the OS update (v2) on his web site. You just run it like a game and it updates the OS... instantly! From the moment the updated finished loading until it showed the OS v2 display wasn't a second.
Any details on what the bug was? Or is it just vague like that saying its SDHC related. Edit: Nevermind. v2 08.08.2012 1) fixed problem, which appear when fat32 card contain a lot of files inside of root dir
I was a bit bummed out when i missed the first batch but I managed to snipe an order this morning, om so so so so happy :redface-new: Got an PC-Engine DUO-R, RGB and JAP/US switch mod from some guy in Japan who sold a lot of them. Ill report back here if i have any issues.
If you guys want to wait, you should consider Stone Age Gamer's option. Though he's currently not taking preorders, he IS working on a deluxe edition, only for his buyers. Otherwise you'll be stuck with a bare PCB like everyone else.
Hi all, just signed up, but been a reader on the forums for a while now. I got a Mega Everdrive, Turbo ED, and SD2SNES recently, and have to give props to KRIKzz for such fantastic hardware and high-quality builds. Other flash carts I had looked into seemed pretty "meh" in comparison, either in compatibility or build quailty. Anyway, I posted a video of some short tests (just four games) I did with the TurboED on my YT channel in case anyone's curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9caLo5OL8c. I had wanted to try for a deluxe Turbo ED from Stone Age Gamer, but wasn't able to get a pre-order in, plus I needed the usb option on there Having earlier purchased the deluxe Mega Everdrive, I knew the deluxe TurboED would be good, but based on that picture Greg2600 posted, it looks fantastic But, for the time being, the bare PCB will have to do :\ At least it seems to have that spot on it that's easy to grab onto with the thumb and forefinger for easy extraction. Carry on good sirs!
Is there any chance people (or maybe even krikzz himself) can produce a prettier menu system? Honestly, it's functionally great - but it would be nice to see it looking more branded.
KRIKzz is all about function over looks. Honestly with how low the resolution of the TG-16 is I am not sure what you could do without taking functionality away.
Krikzz, seems my TD ED isn't working correctly. Couldn't load any roms, would always just sit at a black screen, so tried the OS update. Again, just kind of sat at a black screen, after what looked like was a reset (green bars at the bottom of the screen) so I left it for 3 minutes. Turned it back on, and all I see is a black screen with repeated colour bars/pixels. Any help?
What exact iteration of the PCE do you own? How did you format the SD card, I mean the exact process? Also, where did you get the roms and what format are they in? Do they appear to load all the way the through the status bar and then give the black screen or glitched screen? Is the glitched screen now displaying instead of the menu at start up? If so, is the PCE/TG16 button on the right setting for your region console?
PCE is a white modded one. Region switched and sound boosted with RGB output by HellBelly Pete. Always left on JAP setting, as I don't have any/many US cards. FAT16 formatted Micro SD card, as used in my NDS, but all files wiped. ROMs are in .PCE format from Underground Gamer. When the ROMs load, I never saw a progress bar, just a message that "GAME NAME" loading… please wait (or do not switch off console, cannot remember which) that was centered in the middle of the screen. The glitched screen is all I see on start up, and the region switch still has not been changed from the initial position when first using the cart (in fact I can't remember the last time I did switch the region) I also have the EverDrive MD, Mega EverDrive and Super Everdrive, so am familiar with the process of ROM loading etc. edit: just found the region switch on the card, which is set to PCE. I was replying about the region switch on the PCE console itself. edit 2: quick video of what happens now — http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40145/dead_ted.mp4
If you can't flash the game correctly, then you can't flash OS also. Any attempts to update the OS, when cart work unstable, almost always kill the OS in result. But anyway you can push I+II before than turn on your system to call reserve OS. After that you can repair main os. Try to use another sd card
received my turbo everdrive yesterday and it's working great on my region modded duo-r. thanks krikzz!
Tried to reflash the OS with 3 different MicroSD cards, with no luck. When holding down the I+II and then trying a game, the game may load, but always has graphical glitches, then crashes.
