I picked up a dreamcast at a local thrift store... I don't think it's anything special, but it's worth asking before it goes into the closet...

Doesn't sound anything special but I know nothing about US DC model numbers.

Wait, are we talking worth something (because if so no, that's pretty much the regular DC with 4 common games), or are you asking for awesome games to play?

Because that would be a big list.

A Dreamcast is always something special (not as special as a Saturn, though).

    How's a Saturn more special?

See there's a hole in the back of the Saturn most say it's for memory but some hardcore Saturn fans have found other uses for it...

Nope. Both consoles are amazing in their own right. I can't even understand how someone could not like one as much as the other.

The Dreamcast would have been that much better if it was BC with the Saturn and it's controller was closer to the Saturn's 3d pad. But really to get all the Sega love, you need both.

You really need to own a Saturn and dreamcast. They compliment each other nicely. Nothing better than playing sega rally, nights, and Mr bones, then some house of the dead 2, crazy taxi, and finishing off with dead or alive 2. It's a perfect orgasmic sega tour de France.

and they're basically the same system if you have one of these

I tired to make a case for the Saturn being better before, but they're really on equal ground but if you have one and not the other it's like you only have half a system.

Not quite... Saturn has a much better 2D shooter library as well as JRPG library (which isn't saying much as the Dreamcast has two JRPGs worth playing). It also has NiGHTS, the Panzer Dragoon trilogy, Burning Rangers-...

You know what, I'm just going to stop now. I could list great Saturn games for hours. Oh, wait, it also has a much better 2D fighter library.

But to answer the original question, of course the Dreamcast is special. I'd take the Dreamcast over any console* out today and any console coming out in the future. The only problem is Sega has ported a lot of what made the DC great, so it has kind of weakened the experience.

    * - but not necessarily handhelds, Dreamcast vs. 3DS is hard for me. Saturn trumps everything and always will for the rest of time amen, but right now Dreamcast vs. 3DS is tough.

Aww it was just a bit of giggle by me (although, yes I am a little more of a Saturn fan).

Not many.the ones that were localized are usually not worth the price they go for in my opinion. Expensive English JRPGs are overrated.

Especially considering I can never finish them.

Still, Grandia 2 and Skies of Arcadia are VERY tempted to add to my already epic collection of Dreamcast games.

Saturn is better because of Shining force 3, especially if you get the last 2 scenarios translated! (this is me personally because its my favorite game of all time) but yes Dreamcast is beast and on equal grounds to the Saturn. I just started to play the 2 and I can't believe I missed out on them back in the day :/ now the games.. especially on the Saturn are so crazy priced. I want to go back in time and beat my young self up and make him buy the two consoles.
