We already spoke about that somewere (i can't find the post).
But now, i'm 100% sure its a 32x based hardware.
    :prayer: :prayer:
How? When? Are they retro compatibility with 32x games and vice verça?

I'm really exited by this piece of hardware

Err, the 32X was an addon. Does that make the rest of it a MegaDrive?

I doubt it has anything to do with 32X, other than perhaps using the same chips. Still, MegaDrive has a Z80 in it, as does a Sinclair ZX Spectrum - but does that make the MD spectrum based?

Well, as a matter of fact that is a 32X mobo (it even has MARS on it) connected to a Megadrive-like board. A long time ago on the old board (before you were around) Yakumo had bought one and there was plenty of discussion about this thing. What it comes down to, it requires software that comes on a 32X-like cart, and you can draw using the tablet and edit pictures from a 5V SMC card (taken using the Sega Digio camera). It does not, however, play 32X or Megadrive games.

I remember the old thread, but I don't remember if Yakumo tried connecting the Mars board to a Megadrive. Wonder if it would work...

So the megadrive part isn't a real megadrive... (since 32x games don't run on it, as you said).
But i'm pretty sure there is a way to play the cart (the picture software) on an 32x classic system.
Is there any dump of this cartridge around?

I think i'll buy one of them, wowowow so exiting piece of hardware (better than neptune i think)... $200 with camera + imagemagic, its a ok price?

    Last misterious question...
Why is there a cartridge port + 32xlike cart if there is only 1 cart existing?

For the 32x mobo, yes i confirm, its exactly the same mobo, like if sega took the same factory to pull down the production cost....

    On the numeric camera side:
What is the battery life span?
How many definition(pixels) has the captor?
Is there a screen on the camera?

    Thx

    About the camera:

Battery life: 10 minutes if your lucky like all 1st gen digicams
Resolution i think it was 640x480 so utter crap.
Screen in the camera: don't think so

That's just a supposition or you have this camera?
Because I saw several old digital camera with +30 minutes of autonomy (no screen?)... My Nikkon coolpix 3100 has 14 minutes i think (with 2000 mha batts).

I'm really interested in this hardware. Does anybody have the picturemagic cartridge + a segacd?
Because a dump of this cart (using the segacd dump disc) would be cool.

    Bye

I wonder if they are my Picture Magic photos ? I remember some little sod on the net saying they were his when they were 100% mine. Those look quite similar too but I no longer have my original shots thanks to a virus last year.

If you're referring to the 3 pics in the first post, they're mine. As proof of nothing they're even hosted on my server.

Oups, sorry. It's a net-friend who gave me the url ^^ and i was so exited.

In fact, my dreamed camera is a cam that have +10 hours of autonomy, no external screen (but an internal screen, like some old videocam) and a very strong plastic/latex case ^^.

So, to come back to the original thing.
1-Does this camera use standard AA batteries, and how many (4?)?
2-Is there a dump somewere of the pic-magic cartridge ?
3-Are the drivers compatible with windows 98 SE?
4-Is the captor resolution maximum set to 320*224 pixels (i saw that on a website, its incredibly crap, isn't it?)?

    :smt082

    Thx

    1. Correct
    2. It doesn't run on 32X hardware and there are no PM emulators, so why do you care?
    3. Yes. As an aside the software doesn't like to install on XP systems, but copying the software from a system where they ARE installed works fine.
    4. I disremember.

I could have uploaded them on my ftp, but you'll said : "OMG, fonzie, you're a bastard, you stole my pics"... :smt023

    Just for 2 reasons:
-Might work on a 32x emulator with some 68k reset or rom header modification but its not a priority.
-If you get a picture magic without cartridge, you'll be happy to use a flash card + rom ^^.

So if there is somebody who want to dump this piece of cool, please, i'm really interested in the rom.

Héhé, thx, but this is a critical point LOL.
If its 640*480, i'll try to buy one... If 320*224.... this makes pics 100% unusefull.

    Thx

Note that I don't care, I've got as much bandwidth as any minor deity, but it would be nice if you credited the source. It's a big part of internet etiquette. Randomly grabbing pics and slathering them on forums without crediting the author or source page is just bad form.

My MGH won't touch it (or any 32X cart, or many regular MD carts, or... or...). If anyone has an easy fix for this I'd like to hear it. Got a proto Kolibri cart I'd like to dump also.

I agree with Lawrence. The proper procedure would be to save and host the pictures yourself, and credit the original source, preferably linking to the page they were on, or their home page.

Anti, I was on the old board. That's why I''m member number 30 over here (I see you are merely 76th hehe). I was over there for ages, and yes I remember Yakumo buying one of these and the discussion that ensues. I still don't think the hardware is 100% compatible - would be interesting to see one running on the other, though.

Yakumo - maybe Lawrence was that little sod? Hehe, only joking Lawrence! ;-) Are your pics not still hosted online, Yakumo?

My pictures have long gone thanks to a virus I got that killed all the .jpg files on my PC. It tried to kill the MP3 files too but they were saved just in time. I did see them on the net in two different places. I knew they were mine too beacuse of the way I placed the stylus.

There is a way to dump cart from the segacd + a little cable that link the genesis player2 joypad port to the serial port of a computer.
But this require to disconnect one pin of the cartridge (to make the segacd booting in hight priority)... Using some plastic tape (or just cutting the pin
    :-D ).
