That top board does look like it is suffering from corrosion. Did you take a picture of the bottom of the main board?

Now t at you mention it, it does.

I've not taken a picture of the main board's bottom but I guess I should. I'll do one later on tonight.

Bottom of the main board picture. This actually looks to be in good shape unlike the top sub board.

Hmm, if the top board is the Mega CD I wonder if Mega Drive carts will work if I remove it? Worth a try I guess.

I have a feeling that if the board is corroded then some of the copper traces are no longer making a good connection (or any at all....), have a close look at the board with the heavy blacking and see if the copper has gone pink or green. Old arcade boards suffer from this and it can be a pain to trace as sometimes the copper has been eaten away under the protective layer so it takes ages with a multimeter to find the bad traces then soldering tiny wires between the points.

Why would I need a Japanese BIOS chip? The machine is already Japanese.

I'm going to give up fixing it though. There are far too many bad traces. Just take a look at this close up. There are loads of problems like this on the board.

That's pretty bad, I'd give up on it and try and find another control pac module.

You could of course sell that on ebay as the tried and tested "untested, honest guv, ignore my scouse accent.." :p

I would say try and contact pioneer. It might be cheaper to have them fix it then buy a new one. Cause I do not think japanese packs go for cheap.

If you were close to me I would repair that for you.

    Edit:
But then, judging by pictures, the reason for the fault is major leak from capacitors.

You're a nice guy but I think this is beyond repair. I even gave Pioneer a sayin999 mentioned but after sending them the pictures by Email eventhey said it was beyond repair. Well, actually they said it would need a major re-build which wouldn't be cheap.

Honestly, I repaired things that looked worse than your MD module.

"Beyond repair" is a subtle idea...

Ouch. Well I have seen some japanese packs on ebay guess best look there. Shame really paying that much for a ld layer who's big feature is playing md/mcd games and that doesn't work.

Yakumo, why don't you just send it to l_oliveria and see what he can do?

It's not like he's a newbie just trying to scam parts.
And it's not like you're going to be doing anything with that PAC anytime soon. ;)

If he can fix it, you're golden. If it is "unfixable" well, then you're out the cost of shipping a small packet to Brazil. Not a huge loss.

I do trust l_oliveria but if I was going to send it I'd have to do it by EMS and have it returned the same way. In the end it would be easier just to sell the whole system again. I'd also feel guilty asking l_oliveria to fix something for free.

It would be good for prestige, though ! haha

And if you pay for the shipping, I would not mind at all

You should have told me you wanted one. I have a spare one laying around that doesn't always eject the tray. You have to bump it on the side sometimes. I was going to throw it onto Yahoo but I haven't gotten around to it.

You might want to try a game LD with it and see what it does. The LD games won't play unless the PAC is in good working order. I have a LD game I can lend you if you want to test it out.
