LOL! I was kinda aiming for that.

Regardless, I think all the PC Engine/TG-16 and ED fans are rejoicing as much as I am with this announcement.

Are you using Nios II to do SD card access?

no, all my carts uses console cpu for controll all, and acces to sd also. inside of fpga/cpld implemented shift register for SPI to parallel interface, that is all. in ed64 and mega ed case, i implemented dma controller also, for direct copy from sd to sdram, but cpu also has acces to SD in pio mode

Oh right, no flashing protocol, just straight linear transfer to SDRAM as fast as the SD card can go  DMA controller registers accessed via cart port by console CPU?

    PS: I'm getting ready to buy a DE1 :)

yes, dma registers controlled my n64 cpu. actually flash programming also can be accelerated a lot if hardware flasher will be implemented in fpga, but small cpld, which is was used for snes and edmd does not have enough resources for such implementation

Hmm can you deal with FAT and file fragmentation in Verilog alone? I guess it wouldn't be to hard to reserve some register space to build a cluster map in the FPGA and implement a hardware skip list or TLB to flash clusters out of order.

it is possible, but such kind of work better to leave for cpu

    Wow! This is fantastic news!

Just for curiosity only... Do you plan in the future to also upgrade the rest of the Everdrives into "ultra-deluxe" versions?

I already have SNES, MD and N64 Everdrives, but if upgrade versions are coming with more features, I'll buy them without any doubt (and I think more people could do the same, too)

Meanwhile, I think it's time to get a PCE too :)

PS: This "Deluxe" MD version will fit into a regular cart too?

*EDIT - Fixed. I was thinking early next year is Winter here, but it could confuse people thanks for pointing out.

ok yeah that makes alot more sense, I definitely equate 'winter 2012' with 'a year from now+'

So will this pc engine flash card have arcade system card support? I don't own a pc engine myself but I hear these os carts are becoming harder to find and it be interesting if they did support the different bios carts that included extra ram to run later cd games.

Sigh there goes my hopes for a Stratix based SNES cart with 64 MB SDRAM and SFX, CX4, SA1, and SDD1 support. (or 128MB without SDD1)

PS not really, only kidding. I'm more about the technological accomplishment than really needing that in a flash cart. Not only do I have most special chip games, I've still bought a dozen complete in box non special chip games since having my Super Everdrive ;-)
