PC-Engine/TG-16 flash card would be great! I've got the SNES and Genesis Everdrives so far and they're awesome! Ok, back into my cave...

hehe - I did exactly the same thing for the N64, never had one before and felt I had to get in on the fun.

I would LOVE a PCE card.

I LOVE this idea and would pick one up in a heartbeat if you released it. :)

The genesis is my favorite system too and having a "all out" version of the everdrive would be soo sweet. DO IT! :p

Two systems I would like an Everdrive for

    1. Sega SG1000/SC3000 SMS dose not support it properly and should be relatively easy as there is already a SMS version. Thats easy for me to say : )

    2. Neo-Geo AES I know it would be expensive and hard to do.

The idea has grown on me too. I would like to see a new MD EverDrive with all the sweet features mentioned. Somehow I missed the 16mbyte SDRAM which I like the idea of the ROM being in SDRAM rather than Flash for faster loading an unlimited write cycles. Plus you could have development modes where you have fully writable ROM space.

I believe the flash in the Everdrives is SLC giving it 100,000 erase cycles. Basically it's not an issue.

Right, but it would be nice for the 80MEG flat mapping for Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy, or for a development mode where the Cartridge ROM space is inhabited by RAM instead and the SD card could remain readable. Another thing that would be nice is true SRAM rather than FRAM. Really the FRAM will wear out long before the FlashROM. I think that bothers me more. Not as much of an issue for MD as SNES given less games that utilize SRAM. Atleast both systems are less likely to actively use SRAM as workram like NES does. On NES using FRAM for the cartridge ram would be a terrible idea.

i already play a bit with SDRAM on MD. SDRAM + SD = 5 sec loading for 4mbyte rom if m68k used for data transfer, and less than 1 sec if i used dma controller in fpga. SDRAM controller enough fast for sms, md and 32x games with hidden refresh cycles, so it looks pretty nice :)
FRAM r/w cycles counted by billions, so FRAM will not die before than flash. but anyway, if i will made ultimate md cart i will not use fram or sram, i will be use sdram and hidden copy save data to sd

Sounds awesome. Think of any other features you might want to look into?

That would be an awesome card!

If you were to make an 'ultimate' MD cart, would you be able to add the required hardware to flash the firmware by either USB or from a file on the SD cart? Would the required hardware for this be too expensive?

if ultimate md will be made, then cart will load firmware from SD at startup, firmware will be included into OS file, so OS update will carry firmware update also. homebrew software will be able to load their custom firmware for use fpga as math accelerator or for emulate some other system/chips. fpga firmware can be reconfigurated in a 1-2 sec

Sounds like you've already given this quite a bit of thought :)

Hopefully such a cart does get built! If it does, count on an automatic purchase of 2 carts from me!

Forget the Ultimate MD cart, we already have a MD cart which is perfect. Please go for the PCE cart. I know that there are (or better: were) PCE carts on the market, but they stink! If a PCE ED cart will be in the same league as the other Everdrive carts are, then it will be awesome.

I'm all for the Ultimate EDMD, but I agree with dutch. The current EDMD is perfect in it's own right, even before the Mega Key function was included.

Expansion of the ED family would be great. A HuED (or PCED or TuboED) would be a logical choice before you decide to dive into "mapper hell" or anything else (GBED?).

Whatever your decision is, KRIKzz, you already have a loyal following with all your Everdrive products. Keep up the AWESOME work!

I'll remain hopeful the concept finds its way to GBA and Famicom. No real ED doesn't mean its philosophy can't spread further. :)

I too would prefer a PCE device. While I'm sure a improved MD device would sell, a large part of the market already has a existing version which works well. Krikkz has already suggested he could reuse existing code and could probably design a pcb quickly, so a Pc Engine Everdrive makes more sense. I think there is a bigger market for a PCE flash cart than another MD one, but I'm not making them

I would like a NES/Famicom one (Powerpak is expensive), but I can understand the mapper hell that would involve.

My Super ED just arrived so I can wait a bit longer :)
