I was able to play a full game of burning road(psx) from a demo version. Back in my younger ps1 days I was big into system link. So for shits and giggles it took a full version of burning road booted it on a ps1 early model (still had the expansion pot). After it was at the title screen I would swap a Demo of burning road with it. I was able to play the full game with the demo after the 1st swap. Then I took the full version of burning road and boot it up in a 2nd psx. Connect that with the system link cable and was able to race my friend. Anyone else ever try this?
It depends on the game and what resources it needs to play all of the way through but this can be done with a few titles. A lot of people used to use action replay to disable the timer on demos which had time limits. This would allow you to play alot more of the game. I believe the resident evil 2 demo goes alot further this way.
I got a 3d realms demo cd when i was a yougin. it had duke3d, blood, redneck rampage and some other fps on it. the demos were just the first few levels of the game, however the entire game was in the resource folder. so all i had to do was swap map files and change names. :/
Really? This must not have happened with a lot of demo titles. I would always expect that what you see is what there is due to size constraints of multiple demos, etc. So this must be for Game-specific demo discs. Still, cool to hear. Also that PS1 swap you talk of to play 2 of the same game on system link with the game disc and the demo is sweet.
I have a few demo disc that contain the full game as long as you remove the yime limit or fake ending. Timb Riader on the JPN saturn is infact the full PAL game. Keio Flying squadron is also the full game from what I remember. Yakumo
Yup, if you use the level select cheat and select level 3 (The level after where the demo cuts you off), the rest of the game will continue.
Circuit Breakers on PS1, the best Micro Machines clone ever released, had unique tracks in the demo versions. The full game had a function whereby you could swap to the demo disc and race all of these exclusive tracks with the full game's car selection. It's a pretty unique feature I don't recall seeing in any other game (deliberately at least).
Lazy and/or cutting costs is a better way of putting it. Final Fantasy games are notorious for being able to swap discs around mid-game so long as you don't go some place that you only go once or a boss you only encounter once. Data is duplicated across discs as it is needed throughout the game.
I never thought this possible. I'm taking it we're not talking like magazine demo discs though, right? Just discs that contain the one game only? A list of all of these would be pretty cool. Sounds like this is a cool way to possibly uncover stuff that didn't make it to the final version of some stuff
One of the SegaProCD cover demos for the MegaCD had this bug, if you entered the retail's level select code it would unlock all the levels in the demo.
I remember reading here that if you have a God of War (PS2) complete save game on your memorycard, and you run the demo version... you are able to play more then you are supposed to
