Did that back in the days with Ridge Racer wich didn't required the disk to play: boot one PS1 with RR and CD top cover trick, removed CD once on title screen and then booted second PS1 with same RR cd. no music on first PS1 but who care? Don't remember if it was RR or RR Revolution.
I rented the 1st RR on psx for one day, removed it from the system, returned it and played the game for the next few till i got bored of it.
LoL that was pretty stupid. The only thing I can think of close to that was the ID software DVD they use to sell at PC stores that had the demo & full versions of the game. You where suppose to go online or call a number and pay $$$ to unlock the full games but a lot of people where just getting key gens online. Pretty dumb on IDs part (Sure they got $5 out of you providing you didn't just barrow the DVD off someone).
Put in a music CD and you could listen to that I believe Lots of (early?) PS1 games allowed you to swap in music cds.
I wonder if this was the case with the MegaMan Legends 2 demo that came with The Misadventures of Tron Bonne? -ud
It wasn't such a strange move for a company that'd grown out of the shareware scene. Too trusting, though, agreed. Also that was only for original Quake, wasn't it? I don't think any later games gave you the full game on a demo disc.
It's on my Master Levels for Doom II CD. The installer asks you for a special code that you can get from calling an 800 number.
