Hello, i have a scph-1002, i have burnt stealth v2.8a, i have also wired it correctly, triple checked, still not recognizing backups, im thinking that i haven't burnt the chip correctly, i use a k150 programmer.

one thing i did notice is when i load the hex and go to the fuses tab, it states the following:

    WDT: DISABLED
    OSCILLATOR: IN_RC
    MCLRE: DISABLED
    CODE PROTECT: DISABLED

after i have burnt and 'read' the chip it states:

    WDT: enabled
    OSCILLATOR: xt
    MCLRE: DISABLED
    CODE PROTECT: enabled

what could be causing the problem?

i think i have solved it, i think my programmer is bad, managed to get one programmed successfully that will now boot backups, however when i play PAL backups on a PAL system, they are black and white?

Are you sure they are PAL? That's the result you get when you play NTSC games on a PAL system.

The easiest fix is to use an RGB wired SCART cable.

OK, it sounds like your TV isn't set to RGB mode, or possibly you have a badly wired cable - but PAL discs should give you color even in composite mode.

It shouldn't have any effect like that. If the boot screens, memory card manager and original PAL games appear in color then the console is working. A good test is to try copying one of your original PAL games to a CD-R and verifying that plays in color too. That "Plays in black and white" on a PAL console is a sign of an NTSC disc about 99% of the time. Note that this is only an issue with the older consoles - the later ones (SCPH-7002, SCPH-7502, SCPH-9002) produce a signal in this mode that's a bit non-standard (It's NTSC with a 4.43MHz colorburst), but which a larger proportion of Euro-spec TVs can handle anyway.

On the older consoles like your SCPH-1002, it generates a signal that's "NTSC with an almost, but not quite, 3.58Mhz colorburst" which nothing can reasonably be expected to display.

Thanks for all your help. I use the k150 programmer with 12c508 chips. I have heard that the 12f508 work better?

In short words, they are the same thing. The F series replaces the old C "OTP" series...
It's the K programmer that is a piece of c***...

Other programmer than K150. This programmer have problems with oscal values making chip that use intosc as fuse setting unusable...

If your CD-R game gets passed the boot screen, then your chip should be working correctly.

My advice: avoid using 12C508 on the K150 because if it goes bad (which it can, and did in my experience with it) then your chip is ruined... so if you do use the K150, use the F series because it's rewrite-able.

    Also, see my tutorial:
