    We did this last time.

Try selecting the C version, theres a screenshot in the thread you linked.

    Nope. Does not work.

Says it flashed fine and I verified it.
It wont let me erase of course, because it thinks it is a C based chip.

I will dump it back and see if the HEX matches with the original.

I wired it to a SCPH-5502 and I wired it correctly. My wiring is fine. It would be the programmer / chip.

want me to send you some chips?

cover costs (chip + shipping) and you can have a few.

Uhm probably not at the moment. Maybe later.

I may have a go at making this.
How does this work exactly though. Do I get the PIC16C84 and then wire TxD, GND, CTS, DTR and RTS to the PIC I want to program?

TxD, GND, CTS, DTR and RTS are the serial port of your PC.

Connections to the chip are shown in the picture.

Nope. Not working either. IC-Prog just gives me error after error after error, hangs and freezes my system.

I will just build the JDM programmer. It is easy to build. When I am done, I will upload a photo for you ;)

The diagrams are for a 4 and 5 wire installs, commonly used with Old Crow Code or Anti-Piracy Code.

All modchips share 4 things in common
    Pin1 Power
    Pin8 Ground
    Pin5 GATE
    Pin6 DATA

The reason it worked with backups when you used the MM3 diagrams is because you had PIN6 connected correctly, but failed to boot original because you needed a link cable and no use for PIN5

You might be wondering what PIN4 and PIN7 are
    PIN4 Reset Switch
    PIN7 Door Switch

I used icprog (JDM Programmer schematic) back in 2006/2007 and I can confirm it works. I used it on Windows XP with directport.
I remember icprog spewing errors like crazy, but it actually wrote the correct hex on the PIC (12 C 508-04/P).
I think I wasn't able to check if the "programming" was done successfully but i decided to solder the chip anyway (on SCPH9002 model) and to my surprise it worked perfectly.

Maybe you have a wrong hex. If you want I can send you mine, just PM me.
