Hi, I am going to aquire a TEST unit soon, but i am confuze as some reports that the TEST unit works like a "modded" PS. Thus will like to know if I were to just make a direct copy of a PS2 game and try it on the PS2/3 TEST unit. Will the game run or the disc will be shown "Data Disc" instead? Thanks you for your time and hope someone enlighten me on this issue. *Updated 8 Dec 2012 Drop me a PM should u need to view the Link~ Running on Firmware 1.81:cocksure:
if the main purpose is playing the direct copy simple modded machine would be cheaper imho. TEST units are handy if you have multiple region titles and don't want to stack different region machines...
Hi there, Thanks for the quick reply!!! The purpose of my question was to see if there is a security check on the TEST system before if excute the game disc. Thus I ask if copies can be run directly on the TEST units.
Hmmm, does it implies to PS3 TEST unit as well? (in-terms of PS2 games) Or where should i look regarding this? Btw thanks alot for the response! =)
The post here talks about the differences in TEST models: http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...es-of-TEST-ps2&p=158303&viewfull=1#post158303
Thanks sp193 bro! haha will see you around my place again to fidle with the PSX DESR and FBMC boot when our schedules allows us to! I came across this "Loser's PS2 Disc patcher" to enable CD-R/DVD-R stuff to be run on the TEST system. But does it mean if I were to create an image of my GT3 game, I will need to inject this patcher first then the copy will run like a retail? or this patcher wouldnt be needed if i am running an direct image copy of a retail game.
I don't own a TEST unit, so I can only tell you what I've learned from the Internet: It's like ESR, but you use a master disc patcher instead to patch your ISO9660 disc image (.iso file) before burning them. So yes, you rip your game before patching it with the patcher, before burning it to a disc. 1:1 copies of retail discs will not work, regardless of how you rip and burn it. Like all Playstation 2 consoles, please take care of the laser by using high quality DVD-R discs! Old test units (DTL-H30000 and below) have the KHS-400A/B lasers.. so you know that they are quite rare and expensive now.
Thanks bro for enlightening me!!! I also heard that the PS3 TEST unit can freely downgrade/ upgrade firmware? well, thats what i read and not sure is it allowed on TEST sets or just some SCENE newz. I am very close in getting one PS3 60GB TEST unit, anyone know what the market rate for it now? *just the console only* No box, controller and stuff...
Thanks for the response! Hmmm, I will be leaning toward the PS3 TEST unit, just going to fiddle around with it. Let u know again once i have it =)
Just got my PS3 TEST unit today.... Will like to inform that direct backups copies (1:1 Disc copy) works without master patching. =) For PS1 and PS2 games~ PS3 games untested yet~
