This is how I feel about widescreen in general. Up to 16:9, I can tolerate, but if you gotta go even wider it just means you're a terrible director or cinematographer that can't frame things correctly. If you want to make a mural, make a mural, but you're making video!

I would want this for Silent Hill, but due to the loading/fog it might not make much of a difference. The extra would probably be a white, waiting to load.

Ok well those are some interesting feelings you have. I know this is a gaming forum but some education is in order. Widescreen films were invented in the 50s to compete with tv. With This is Cinerama, the widescreen format allowed people to be become more enveloped in the movie. Some of the top 10 films ever made (2001, Seven Samurai, Lawrence of Arabia) are shot in 2:35:1 by some of the best directors who ever lived. I can't even type the director's names and the idea "can't frame a shot correctly" because its so beyond wrong I can't do it.

The reason some director's shoot 1:85:1 (or tv ratio 16:9) is because they either don't care of they don't want the films chopped for tv viewing. It has nothing to do with composition. Ask yourself this, do you think the opening shot of Star Wars would be as effective in a square format or the widescreen 2:35:1 where the whole ship takes up your viewing space.

    Think about it please.
