I booted up my console and without any updates or the like, I had a Home icon sitting atop the Store. Installed and reserved some space, I hope it's as exciting as they hyped it to be. Will be back with more impressions! in the mean-time, I d like to see if there are any differences from the Beta, so post your impressions too =) EDIT: Just noticed that it says BETA on its side. Someone please delete the thread =)
Theres tons of differences from the beta versions Ive still got video from a few of the older versions.
While I'm not a HUGE fan of this kind of service, I commend Sony for doing something like this, and really hope people won't use this as yet ANOTHER excuse to find something "wrong" with Sony as seems to be the trend now days. I'll give home a try, who knows I may enjoy it. I have a lot of catching up with my actual games though. Still at least they're trying something different.
came back after a long session. it reminded me a lot of when I first chatted on an IRC channel - everyone's trying to get laid or be offensive. Nothing special and quite boring I might add. The idea behind it is nice but it feels like an awkward chatroom of sorts. Furthermore, the character editor is ASS. My Mii and NXE avatar are A LOT more like me than the character I made on Home - this I didn't expect.
Don't suppose anyone knows how to access the theme rooms like the Uncharted one? "/ EDIT: Nevermind, they've been disabled for the Open beta.
Oh I got access to 2 of the rooms in Uncharted: Sully's Bar, even the one with TWO codes for one door...however I forgot them sorry I agree, if we form a community on there I think it'd be nice. From what I saw it was kinda boring as Barc0de said. However, I think over time it might get better. The character creation is indeed shit though. And to buy more clothes you have to pay REAL money...that's some bullshit. Overall, it's a nice concept, I spent about 2 hours just farting around last night and time flew by, still haven't downloaded the majority of the "rooms" or "areas" yet.
Without the game lobbies, it is basically a 3D IRC. But when/if this beta period ever ends, then we will start seeing the full idea.
LOL, see this is the downside if having something like home. It's a virgin magnet, watch them crowd round a pretend girl so they can act all cool LOL pathetic. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=--KAq8V4phY A classic example in motion. Watch them flee when they get owned.
Apparently they never learned internet lesson no°1: There are no girls on the internet! Great video!
Guys thanks for the links, It was as funny as hell! Ah, I had heard about virtul worlds but never been in one, Lol! PS: Barcode you don't thinks its all its cracked up to be? I didn't know sony was coming out with one, thats cool! Thanks! :icon_bigg
I'd really like a PS3, but I don't think Home is anything commendable - charging for virtual clothes? Shitty browser-ish games you need to queue up for? I think I'll pass. Both Home and the NXE avatar shit just scream of "me too" copying of Nintendo's Mii thing, which I was never particularly interested in. Make some games and sell them to me, and stop fucking around.
I agree Alchy, and after playing home, it isn't great shakes I'll give you that. But at least Sony is trying something...while it failed it seems, at least you gotta givem credit for the effort. It gives the PS3 crowd a bit more community I suppose. It's just I was expecting to see "Typical Sony" type posts on gaming boards and I've seen my fair share....seems "typical" in more ways than one.
Sony have left themselves open for a lot of abuse during this generation, but then so have their competitors. I guess I don't see why criticism of Home would be "yet ANOTHER excuse" to criticise Sony; it's almost as though you're saying there aren't any.
No, there is plenty. As a Sony fan, I will admit they haven't been up to par this generation as opposed to say...the PS1/2 eras. However, I think people take the criticism too far at times. It's almost become a "trend" to hate on them. I think the biggest fault is the price of the system, thus shooing away developers to the 360 and thus leaving gamers without much purpose of playing a PS3. My best friend has a 360, so we swapped systems when we wanted to play the other so I had the best of both I guess. The only thing is the 360 has more games like Gears, Halo, etc....and I'm just not into those type of games. So no real reason for me to get the 360 as their exclusives didn't appeal to me. Sony's did. I am eager to acquire a DS now, Nintendo hasn't done it for me in a while, so I became jaded to the fact that there's an actual good library of games on the DS I'm missing out on. Last Nintendo system I had was a 64 and that was years after it came out. So, to some I may sound like a "Sony fanboy" trust me, I'm not. I'm a fan, yes, but not a fanboy. I just honestly believe that the PS3 doesn't deserve as MUCH flak as it is getting this gen. Plenty to complain about, but not to the extent it does.
Resistance, Killzone, Socom, etc. A lot of games are about shooting stuff, lol. Really, even without those, the 360 and PS3 both still have great games. Only 3 of my 50 something 360 games are FPS's. I'm not counting Gears because I don't think there FPS, but really, if you look past the shooters you dont like there's tons of good stuff on both. Uncharted!
the ps3's bane is its right thumbstick. i can never get over it. my performance is much worse on Colin McRae Dirt on the Ps3 yet on the 360 version, thanks to the stick and triggers, i win fine!
What sort of moron plays racing games on a pad? Logitech make some fine steering wheels that are generally compatable with the PS2, PS3 and PC. GT5P is an utter joy to play much better then any racing game on the Xbox 360, mainly due to the sublime control methods.
