If i have a PAL PS2 and buy the NTSC-U Final Fantasy XI package with the HDD and the ethernet adaptor, will they work on my PAL machine?

Nope, they wont work. The disks wont be able to be read for one (HDD Driver disk), you wouldnt be able to install the Chains of Promethia expansion (Only the game plus 1st expansion is on HDD), and the Harddrive just wont work (as far as i know). But even if the hardware did work (which im 95% sure it doesnt), the disks wouldnt, so bleh...:)

Wait until he answers on the DNAS issue.

Plus, does your TV support 60hz?

This is what you'd need to do:

    1) Install a mod chip
    2) The NTSC HDD disc will not boot on a console with a mod chip so you'd need to copy the disc and patch it.
    3) Load the patched disc and install the HDD software
    4) Remove or disable mod chip
5a) FFXI will be preinstalled so you can just load it from the HDD (I think) and off you go...
5b) If FFXI is not installed you will need the mod chip to boot the disc but then it will be detected by DNAS when the installation DNAS check takes place.... so it will fail.

I think it would work if the HDD is pre-installed with the software though. And you can't install it on your HDD using your mates American PS2 because it won't then boot on yours - I tried it!

    I think

Yea, but then theres the issue of the expansion, which is good to have :p Plus the new one coming out.

And, as I said, the 60hz vs 50hz

95% of UK tv's support 60hz these days. In fact if the TV has a SCART socket then the PAL television will display the NTSC signal in crisp colourful quality.

I have not seen a scart enabled TV not capable of producing a 60hz picture - so it's not a problem these days.

I see you havn't seen my TV...

  11. Thats correct DNAS would fail, I've never used the online bit anyway, I was answering the question from the side of taking the FF HDD out of the box and plugging it in.

...All the software should be installed, it was on mine, I have a PAL machine with a Messiah 2 in it and it worked a treat.
