Given recent problems with certain users, there is an URGENT need to password protect the wiki.

So all who have written, please protect your articles.

I have just passworded my two things on the DTL-H30002 & DTL-H30002 S not that they are anything more than specs, but better to be safe then sorry. If anyone has anything they want to add to these just pm me and I'll see what we can do.

I said this from the start. I suggested all members to do this. If other members want to help, just give them the password.

Few corrections spellingwise on your articles nicola
    Toaster
    ---
In 1994 there were rumors about an home Virtual Reality system by Hasbro. Target price: 299 USD. During 1995 Hasbro announces that it is almost ready to distribute the console, made in cooperation with VWE (Virtual World Enterteinment Group). The codename of the unit is "Toaster". Tech specs similar to the Nintendo 64. Will be based around a RISC CPU and will use the BRender technology from Argonaut for software development. The dev kit has been given to the following developers: Microprose, Virgin, EA and Argonaut. The father of the project is David Sarnoff (Sarnoff Laboratories, New Jersey), Working together with Abrahm's Gentile Entertainment (who, as the magazine reports, is currently working on the next generation Power Glove). Later, on the 20th July, Hasbro announces that the high costs of the project may pull the price over the 300 USD target. After 3 years of working and 59 millions dollar spent, the project fades away.
    ---

I'm guessing the BRender isn't a mistake, and the company is actually called that

    Blockbuster world championship etc
    ---
Many competitions took place in the USA during the 1990's: Nintendo with their World Championships during Powerfests in 1990 (with the well known cart) and 1994 (with PCBs containing Super Mario All-Stars, Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball and Super Mario Kart). There was also the Nintendo Campus Challenge in 1992 with a special cart, which was never distributed (not a single cartridge is known of at the moment) . The cart contained Dr. Mario, Pinbot and Super Mario Bros 3. In 1993 there was the StarFox Super Weekend/StarWing Super Weekend cart, in cooperation with Blockbuster. In 1994 The first Blockbuster World Video Game Championship on SNES and Genesis.
    And finally...
The 1995 Blockbuster World Video Game Championship II: for SNES, Rare made the Donkey Kong Competition Edition cart; for Genesis, Acclaim made a special cart, containing NBA Jam: Tournament Edition and Judge Dredd.
This acclaim cartridge is, as far as I know, the only competition cart for the Genesis. After the tournament, shop owners had to destroy the cart, that's why so few exist (4/5 known of at the moment). The label states:
Promotional Use Only-Not for Resale BLOCKBUSTER WORLD VIDEO GAME CHAMPIONSHIPS II NBA Jam Tournament Edition Judge Dredd
(and a lot of small print)
The "II" on the cart may be the cause of some rumors about two other cards. Let's clarify this:
You may find rumors about a Blockbuster World Video Game Championship I made by Acclaim...this, following what I wrote, should be from 1994. The problem is that this combo cart should contain Micro Machines (by Codemaster, 1993) and Psycho Pinball (always by Codemaster, 1994, NOT RELEASED IN USA). The same combo can be found in the European (UK) cart Codemaster 2-in-1, a normal retail cart. So this cart can't be real.
You may find rumors about a Blockbuster World Video Game Championships III. This cart should have been released after the 1995. This cart does not exist. There is no information on the tournament anywere. The games that are rumored to be on this Acclaim cart: Rambo 3 (Sega/Carloco, 1989 launch title) and Tetris (from Genesiscollective and personal knowledge: Pageantsoft/Dr. Pepper Studio, 1989. Never officially released, just bootlegs in Asia). Now this combo can be found on the pirate multicart Golden 20-in-1: Bare Knuckle, Rambo 3 and Tetris. Maybe I am wrong but Nintendo owned the rights for publishing Tetris on consoles at the time.
So the Blockbuster World Video Game Championships II cart, that means "cart for the second tournament", not "second cart", is the only competition cart on Genesis as far as I know. Basically, you play one period in NBA Jam and the first stage of Judge Dredd with a time limit. At the end both scores are added to the "Tournament Total".

Hope you don't mind me making these corrections, I just like to see things looking their best, particularly on what could be a well used resource throughout and beyond the community

Its pretty damn good for a non-native speaker!

I do quite often go through the wiki doing spell checks etc, since I do think it is important for things that are published to the web for all to see to have good english. This isn't a dig at anybody, I know that not everyone on the forum is a native english speaker, which is why I do my bit to help out on the wiki. I learn about cool stuff from your articles, and you hopefully learn a bit more english through my corrections . Seriously, I'm happy to spell check anything people write for the wiki. I'm not claiming to be an expert at english, But I think I'm pretty good at spotting and correcting mistakes

Speaking of spell checks, can you guys that have password protected your Wiki entries put a title header up top while editing, if you haven't? It makes things a little neater and more organized. ;-)

    A line, for example, like:
    :)title Alphas, Betas, Prototypes:)

Then the usually first line like (!!Example Title) wouldn't be necessary. If some of you are confused:

Here's an example of a document without a title

Here's an example of a document with a title

    Thanks.

Would it be worth one member keeping a list of all peoples passwords used to protect the wiki? Then if someone went missing and the article needed updating, then it could be changed? It would seem like a waste if some articles were lost forever simply because the passwords weren't known

Nicola, heres a spellchecked version of your latest article

    SNK Neo Star

This article is from the European The Official NEO GEO Club Newsletter, November ‘93, Issue no. 5.
    “Neo Geo CD-ROM
Via well placed sources close to the development team working on the next generation of SNK cartridge machines, information and an artist’s impression has been given for what the next machine to be launched by the company could look like.
The machine is being considered to be called the Neo-Star, and is a much larger system than the one we have all become familiar with for these past three years. The main differences are obvious from the artist’s impression, showing clearly the new dual CD-1/CD-ROM drive, able to play special Neo Geo games.
The next major improvement of the machine is the wireless, Infra-Red joysticks, allowing the player to sit well away from the machine but still able to control the action on screen.Another feature is the new larger capacity memory card, which is a specially created credit card sized cartridge able to hold 20x more information, and rumoured to be used in the planned Home-banking service for Japanese users.
The last major external change to the machine is the inclusion of an Expansion Port that will allow the system to be plugged into a number of new add-ons due to follow the release of the machine.
The specifications of the unit are still shrouded in secrecy, and will undoubtedly change as SNK upgrade or downgrade certain features to keep the machine at a certain price point, but this rough out-line has been made exclusively to our readers.
The Neo-Star is proposed to be a 32-bit system, compared to the original 16-bit of the Neo Geo, and will use RISC central processing units. This is claimed to have a clock speed of around 14.5 MHz, making it seven faster than any of the competition, and five times faster than the current Neo Geo.
The machine is capable of a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, and uses a new Super-Scart system to increase the resolution sent to the displays it is connected to. No details on the number of colours or the speed at which it will be able to move sprites around, but that information can't be far away as other manufacturers will be keen to know it.
The big news is that the machine is aiming to be capable of polygon graphics and there is speculation that the Neo-Star could be the first 3D games machine that will be able to create truly interactive virtual reality style games. The CD-1 Features allows for movie quality sound/graphics to be played with video game interaction via the cartridges. The CD-ROM dual allows for bigger games and extra graphics or information stored on special CD’s.
The machine has Infra-Red joystick controllers, as well as sockets for normal joysticks meaning that four players could take part in one game. The new joysticks are to be lighter and more comfortable than the original with a new “palm gripâ€, and a head-phone socket built-in. Special surround sound sockets are also included on the machine allowing it to be plugged into a stereo Hi-Fi to offer mind blowing sound.
The expansion Port is the one feature that has the most potential, with suggestions of a new cable-TV/Modem connector that would allow multi-player gaming, as well as home-banking features and through a TV. Also expected is a 3D goggles system, and best of all a keyboard facility, (possibly to be used in-conjunction with the home-banking features).
For all you Neo Geo owners that do not want to give up their machines, there is a speculation that SNK are talking about creating a Neo-CD unit that will allow existing Neo Geo’s to be plugged into a kind of CD drive unit, offering some of the features of the Neo-Star. The unit is being considered to be launched before the replacement system.â€
In 1994 SNK stopped the Neo Star project. The price would have been around $700, for a console less powerful than the Saturn or PlayStation. Later they released the Neo Geo CD.

we must create, I repeat, a section for service items, like the NTF carts or the counter tester. I don't know where to put these!

Nice suggestion! Do the service items include any software if any? Anyway, I've created a new topic for that section, and can be found on the Side Bar.

Well, I made a research and put service items in the category. Slowly we will fill every entry. I added another cathegory in the sidebar: demo units, like the M82 or the Master System Demo System. I will add all the entry I know in that section too.

..actually we should, I think, make a separate section for items like the Famicom Box, PlayChoice-10, Sega Mega Tech and so on...these are inside the obscure system category. But a Playdia is a different concept from a VS System!

If we put everything in order now, everything will work better later.

I like that new additions there Nicola ! I've added some to the Service Utilities section. Where do you recommend topics like the VS Unisystem and the Playchoice-10 belong? I can move them later on...

I really don't know... playchoice, mega tech and vs system are arcades...famicom box is an hotel unit...
As for the new entries, as soon as I can I'll post all the infos I have.

And someone should add system disks...

and, MORE IMPORTANT, EVERY TOPIC THE SAME ORDER, rules for posting. Somewhere Nintendo and Sega stuff are divided in two separate subdirectories, somewhere else NEC stuff, Nintendo stuff and so on are all in the same list! Look at the Dev hardware section for example! These topics should be divided in section by companies. If more entries are added, it may be difficult to find out what you're looking for.

  19. Am I the only one who thinks that password protecting a wiki goes against the whole concept of a wiki? I mean, it's supposed to be open. If what you're worried about is someone coming along and trying to destroy the wiki, that's not really possible because you can always revert any wiki page or even revert all edits made by a particular user (with some wiki scripts at least).

Not only are passwords contrary to the idea of wikis, they're generally a bad idea if you want a good wiki. For instance, there's quite a bit of bad info in the wiki currently, but I don't really feel like trying to get permission to change things, especially since there's no defined route for bringing up suggested edits. If you're sure you want the wiki to be password protected (and, to be honest, I don't really think I'm going to talk you out of that), there should at least be discussion pages for each wiki pade so that people can easily suggest edits and get the password once the edit is approved...if the person who set the password is around anymore, that is.

    ...word is bondage...

Like i said, the stuff i added, i always want help, critics, and suggestions.

I know it would be great to have it without passwords, but the internet is full of ignorant human beings. What stops people from deleting everything from the wiki?

I know it can be solved by having backups, or that revert any edits (don't know how to do it), but it's safer to have it password protected.

If someone helps, explaining how reverting edits works, i'll surely get rid of the password, though.
