It could be anything (I couldn't understand the video, as I don't know Japanese), I would doubt an actual hardware release, maybe Sony is going to start putting Pocketstation games on the Vita (do they do that already in Japan?)

So sony is going to launch an underpowered portable side-dish in a world full of cheap cellphones and tablets, that got to be the dumbest idea I ever...........wait they did release the vita.

    Nevermind...

The sign they stare at says "There's a big presentation related to PocketStation" obviously on the 5th November.

Maybe it's a second screen app like SmartGlass?

I wonder if it's more going to be a part of the playstation app for ps4 (odd to announce now when ps4 is next year) or if they are really going to push another portable pedometer type deal in japan. Nintendo is pushing a new one for Wii Fit U.

On a side note, because of this new I dug through the docs on pocketstation yesterday and i'm surprised how powerful that thing is for what all it did and when it came out.

Pretty sure their soon due Playstation app for iOS/Android/Vita can do that.

Maybe this is their way of branding it - it would make sense to call it Pocketstation

For USA/Europe. This is a Japanese announcement set for next week and japan does not get it till next year. Not to mention that pocketstation only came out in japan in the first place.

It is very well possible. I guess we will find out in a few days.

I still own my pocketstation from a while ago. Had a cousin stationed in japan and he got me one in the late 90's. It wasn't anything amazing which is why I think Sony didn't release it outside japan. TBH I don't know how it's going to sell with so many Mobile devices getting cheaper. The Vita just sadly keeps sinking and this device wouldn't do any better especially with VitaTV being released which is a lot cheaper and is able to use a DS3.

I think the question comes down to price. If they really do make a new pocketstation, it needs to be $30 or less.

I'm really starting to thing it might just be the name for the PS4 app in Japan given that the PS was a bit popular back in the day, a way to cash-in on the nostalgia

For the rest of the world it makes no sense, only guys like us know what that thingy was

Yeah, Quite funny they would do that. It's fully compatible with ps1 games on vita that supported the device.

As for what works, they put up a section on the psn store (on vita) that groups the compatible games together.

Wonder if it's going to be released here in the US? Otherwise I might just have to clean my Vita and create a japanese PSN account finally, been meaning to do it for awhile now.

It will never come outside jp. There are no games that support PocketStation in US/EU.

Yeah, they even included PocketStation emulator (or simulator, never bothered to look at executable) in PC port.
